What is it about Tilda Swinton that gets right up my nose?

I can't quite put my finger on it, but she does. SHe seems so po-faced, similar to Annie Lennox, who also gets up my nose. PArt of me thinks I might be quite jealous of her oh-so-arty and bohemian lifestyle and her home in the highlands, while I schlep around as a humdrum housewife in the suburbs. Hmm, think I might have answered my own question...

She was a gorgeous Spare Rib cover girl once, back in the day

bibbitybobbityhat · 23/03/2010 14:36

Is there an article today? Why you all talking about her? Where is the link?

piprabbit · 23/03/2010 14:39

I have a teeny crush on Ms Swinton. She is living my life, while I seem to have got a leftover one from Gavin and Stacey.

deaddei · 23/03/2010 14:39

I do like her- very aloof. Maybe I have a pash on her

DottyDot · 23/03/2010 14:39

I always hoped thought she was a lesbian but apparently she's got a very enviable bohemian arrangement with husband and other man?

bibbitybobbityhat · 23/03/2010 14:40

Link?

piprabbit · 23/03/2010 14:40

A much younger man at that.

DottyDot · 23/03/2010 14:40

Blimey Charlie - MI - how the devil are you?!

For me it's her persistent refusal to use mascara.

motherinferior · 23/03/2010 14:55

Hi Dot!

squeaver · 23/03/2010 15:08

bibbity - here's the link

I dunno, it's just all so worthy. But now I think it might be the mascara thing too

nigelslaterfan · 24/03/2010 11:05

I like La Swinton. I think her manner is because she's seriously Posh, wasn't she at the Diana Princess's school? I think so, I mean that's almost as posh as it gets if I remember rightly.

She's also really clever and as turbo Bohemian as any bluestocking has ever been.

Reasons to like Tilda:

  1. She's a classic British eccentric Bravo Tilda
  2. She was huge mates with Derek Jarman, I respect that
  3. She spent years making arthouse cinema for nay cash at all - quite noble, but easier if you're born loaded
  4. She has a husband AND a toyboy and they all live together in a proper Art Commune of some kind and her toyboy is an Artist who she calls my "Sweetheart" NAUSEOUS but you would if you could wouldn't you? I mean wouldn't one?
  5. She can ACT, she is brilliant at that.
  6. She supports children seeing films, bless her.

I forgive her, respect her, envy her sure.

nigelslaterfan · 24/03/2010 11:07

LOL SG mum.

Also she lay in a glass casket in the Serpentine Gallery.

Bravo! That's weird! That's great !
I like her more now I think of it!

She looked fabulous in Orlando.

motherinferior · 24/03/2010 12:12

And she does film showing where you get in with a cupcake, iirc.

I cannot say her lashes have detracted from her ability to get people of all genders and sexualities lying panting at her feet.

The Inferiorettes - then at a tender age, I felt slightly worried for them - watched the Lion etc agog, worshipping her and saying 'she is WONDERFUL'.

expatinscotland · 24/03/2010 12:21

I think she's a British thang. Because I can't see the appeal. She's a good actress, sure, but there are many of those.

She looks like a walking corpse.

Nigel Slater leaves me cold, too.

He's so poncy and his hands are out of proportion to the rest of his body.

muddlinleigh · 24/03/2010 12:30

I passed John Byrne and her kids on Princes Street in Edinburgh once.

Nigel Slater comes over a bit shifty on telly but seems like a sweet fellow.

Yeah, I think she's a bit up herself, Stewie.

And anyone who claims Polanksi should be released just because he's an artist is, too.

[rolls eyes]

nigelslaterfan · 24/03/2010 14:35

I don't like Nigel Slater on telly either, I like his recipes.

If Polanski is guilty of what he was accused then that is horrific and he should not be released until he's served a sentence and is deemed no threat to society.

But as there has been no trial I have no idea if he is actually guilty. I think US justice can be extremely peculiar. Maybe he is guilty of sleeping with this girl underage and abusing her, maybe he isn't, point is how does anyone actually know?

Just an accusation isn't proof, nor is pleading guilty always proof of guilt if people are plea bargaining.

I'm a massive hater of anyone who abuses the vulnerable but I also have to admit that it is possible to falsely accuse in any crime where it is simply one person's word against another. Now there may have been evidence in this case, I don't know, it just seems odd to assume we know what happened.

Everyone in Nairn is a bit weird ime.

'Everyone in Nairn is a bit weird ime. '

Glad it wasn't just me.

We stayed there in a self-catering cottage for a wee holiday once, back when we were living in Edinburgh.

We weren't sorry to see the back of it, either.

Bumnoise · 24/03/2010 14:48

Oh no definitely not just you Expat!

expatinscotland · 24/03/2010 14:57

It was like stepping into a Twighlight Zone episode, and not in a good way.

And we didn't find it very pretty, either.
