Would you bother to go to London for just one night?

Me and dh had booked a weekend away in London, but now dh is moaning about the cost as last time we went we spent a lot on travel in london, eating out for lunch and dinner, 2 nights hotel and shopping etc.

I have booked tickets to go to the Hammersmith Apollo on a friday night so still really want to go but just wondering if it would be silly to go for one night?

It would cost us less in travel because the trains are cheaper if we went Friday lunchtime and came back saturday afternoon, fridays hotel rate is cheaper than saturday, plus it would only be one night rather than two, and of course would only be one nice meal out and lunch on saturday.

So would you bother? Or does it seem like a waste if its not the whole weekend?
(btw we are in cardiff so 2 hours on train)

I would go

I often go away for just one night, usually sat - sun cos of dh working on Friday and me looking after the kids

PrettyCandles · 01/02/2010 11:54

I would go. It's still an outing, couple-time together. I live about 1.5h drive away from London, and I often go just for a daytrip, so 2h to travel for an overnighter which included most of two days seems perfectly reasonable. Besides, the two hours on each train are also part of the couple-time.

LoveBeingAMummy · 01/02/2010 11:56

I would go yes and leave the kids whereever they were going for the two night

LBM I like youre thinking!!!

Maybe not such a bad idea then, dh thinks its ridiculous

Well if he doesn't want to go I'll meet you there

mosschops30 · 02/02/2010 09:56

He wouldnt even discuss it last night. Hes always like this, never wants to do anything that Ive arranged but then when we do go he loves it and says 'oh we should do this more often'

I think the one nighter is a good compromise and my free £200 should cover almost all of it

Well I've driven from London to Cardiff for the day (DCs wanted to see the Dr Who exhibition) so what you're planning on doing seems pretty reasonable to me.

Used to do daytrips to Swansea when my friend was at Uni there.

mosschops30 · 02/02/2010 10:07

wow you came to cardiff just to see the Dr Who exhibition? Were they disappointed? (my dc's were and we only had a 20 minute drive)

I'm going for just an evening

Going Thurs lunchtime, coming back about midnight-ish. (Bournemouth - London)

mosschops30 · 02/02/2010 10:12

Im glad no one thinks its silly. I just dont want it to be rushed, you know rush on train, rush to hotel, rush out for meal, rush to venue, blah blah

As soon as you leave the house you are on hlida and should not rush anywhere

LoveBeingAMummy · 02/02/2010 10:14

I frequently go to London just for a day, takes about 1hr 45mins from here on the train. I leave about 8am and come back on the last train about 11pm. Well worth it for one night!

Oh yes, if it's just from Cardiff then go!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 02/02/2010 12:03

Oh yes, if it's just from Cardiff then go! The travelling isn't that long.

Have as long as you can in London on Saturday (either get hotel to store bags in reception or take to left luggage at station), have a nice lunch out (but needn't but too £££) and do something nice but cheap-ish to help keep costs down (Museum, gallery,...) Then all you've missed is Sat night and a bit of Sunday.

They really enjoyed it Mosschops Better than that though was seeing all the harbour and the 'Torchwood Hub' (not that they've seen TW, but they recognised it in the episode when the Doctor goes there) and we went out on a boat, so it was a very nice trip out.
