Trapped on a cruise ship....help for the DD working on one!

DD has spent 3 years out of work having finished at Uni. She eventually got a job on a cruiseliner and was really excited about going. Now the reality of work has hit her and the 11 hour duty (split into 2), being on the same ship etc etc is getting her down. She has an 8 month contract and is about 2.5 months into it. She's been to some fabulous places already, spent Christmas in the Carribean and is doing all sorts of things, including swimming with dolphins.

Now, the grass is always greener on the other side of the fence and now she is so fed up, she wants to quit. It is hard work and she's having to do what customer service does best: deal with complaints etc. so not always a happy role to play. BUT she is being paid a fair amount for the work, board and lodge etc and she can't really spend much on the boat!!

I have said all this to her but she is still negative.

What I was hoping for from you is a few ideas that I could send her on a few emails that read something like: life on a ship is hardwork but it has it's positives too....... or is better than.....just so she can see the other side of the coin.

I know where I'd rather be right now except I get sea sick!!

She's not a keen workaholic but we're really hoping she'll stick this out and get some independence and sense of achievement rather than quitting so early.

I'm going on a ship in the summer and I can't wait! Unfortunately, I get horribly seasick as well and the last time we went I had a miserable time, but still love it IYSWIM

I'll swap her job and not being seasick for my being in a boring office in London and then going home to a mad, manic 2yo!

Is it worth mentioning to her that if she sticks it out it will look MUCH better on her CV than if she quits after just a couple of months? It's not a great time to be job-hunting in the UK right now . . . !

Good point about the CV. But it is better than selling mags on street corners or quote being in a 'boring' office!!

Definitely mention CV, if and employer is looking for someone, they will always take a person who is committed and finished a contract rather than one that bailed a third of the way through.
