I was at a bus stop with my little one & this guy stopped & put his window down & I thought he was going to ask me for directions & he said did i want a lift I do no know this man I said I don't know you.
he said well I live down X road.
then he drove off.
This is not being polite just creepy.
how many other people has he done this to?

Maybe he recognised you from being a local? Not really a big deal methinks.

Lifeinagoldfishbowl · 08/01/2010 21:35

I have often thought that when I get a car that if I saw someone stood in the snow/pouring rain at the bus stop I would at least stop and offer them a lift especially if I'd seen them around before.

pinkglitter · 08/01/2010 21:37

the thing is i have never ever seen this guy so not sure about this one. thanks

But if you spend a fair bit of time walking around with your little one/getting the bus etc and he is driving around he would notice you.

pinkglitter · 08/01/2010 21:43

of course this is the weather that you don't want to stand around but to aproach a total stranger?

He was in a car - you were standing. He was trying to be helpful.

theagedparent · 08/01/2010 21:47

Does sound a bit odd if you didn't know who he was. I wouldn't get in a car with a stranger no matter how bad the weather.

pinkglitter · 08/01/2010 21:58

thank you theagedparent my point exactly
like your mother told us never get in a car with a stranger I felt very vunrable

So you've answered your own question then?

BigBadMummy · 10/01/2010 15:45

its a shame when a random act of kindness gets interrupted as "weird".

Not saying you are wrong OP, it is what I would have thought, too. But isnt it a shame that we question someone's generosity.

This happened to me when I was with my granny at the bus stop.

Admittedly the guy driving the car was in his 60s but even so we politely declined.

threetimemummy · 10/01/2010 16:24

I think he was just trying to be helpful.

My husband, my two sons and I abandoned our car due to crap driving condition recently and slogged home. AT LEAST 5 or 6 sets of people offered us help.
