NYE. Children staying over dilemma

We have all been invited to a party on NYE. Big house with lots of kids coming on the evening. Plan is that about 9 the kids slope off upstairs to have a DVD and popcorn and then settle down for the night. Leaving the adults free to party. It also means that DH and I can walk (stagger) home without a taxi.

DH isn't keen to leave them (nutter!). I don't have a problem with that but I do worry that as DD has a sleepover the night after and they are all back to school on Monday, they will all be hanging.

WWYD. Taxi for all of us about 10pm, or I stay sober (it will be me ) and drive us home, or DC stay over and DH walk home after 12,

I think 'Nutter' is about right!

Let them stay. Enjoy yourself. The kids will be more pissed off that they have to leave a good party at 10pm or later when they are snuggled down for a DVD and popcorn!

I would take you all home, if you are going home anyway, by taxi when you are finished.

I wouldn't want to leave the kids in a house where all the other adults were partying, not knowing what might happen. It's not a normal sleepover after all.

So that's sleepovers on thursday night and friday? I reckon early to bed on sat and sun and they should be fine, esp if you take them with you when you leave the party.

Get a taxi, no need for you to not drink at all.

Sleepover is the only sane solution. They can have a kip in the afternoon to catch up (long drive with heaters on in the car? )

And you get a lie in.

Result.

I wouldn't get a taxi at 10, BTW. How old are they? If they are old enough to be settling down for a film at 9, then old enough to get taxi back with you after midnight as one off, no?

PixieOnaChristmasTree · 29/12/2009 16:23

Maybe you could take them home with you - a taxi won't be any more expensive if there are more of you and if she's got a sleepover the day after then she'll be really tired after two nights of no sleep.

However, she might sleep better where she is - she won't have to wake up and you can leave her there to have a good nights sleep.

tis new yrs

let dc sleep
have a blast!!!

all get taxi home ( if you can)

walk and pick kids up the next day

OrmIrian · 29/12/2009 16:29

Thanks for your ideas.

There are 5 of us so we can't get a normal taxi anyway. Unless one of remembers to tell the taxi company we need a bigger car.....

pfft - there are several 14/15 yr olds there so not all tiny ones and my DC know the house well. But I think that is part of DH's concern.

Oohh don't know. Would love to leave them all and come home to a night sans kids and a lie in though.

I see I have been the voice of dissent!

It's tempting to leave them at that age but I wouldn't. Just me though.

You can pre-book a taxi and get 5 in a black cab.

MaureenMLove · 29/12/2009 19:53

What about leaving the 2 older ones there and taking little one home? Or will that cause all manner of sulkiness from the wee one?

Uriel · 29/12/2009 19:56

I'd book a taxi for 12.30 and all go home then. Wouldn't want to leave the kids.

Ivykaty44 · 29/12/2009 20:01

What excactly is your dh worried about?

The dc will be asleep, not all the adults will be completly sozzeled will they?

what does dh think will happen?

MaureenMLove · 29/12/2009 20:04

I'll be leaving my DD behind on NYE. Although she is 14 and we are only nextdoor! It's a bit of a free for all tbh. If we have floor space, people sleep in here from the party! We are a very close neighbourhood!
