Dog Nipped my ds

Hi all

Weve had our lovely dog 2.5yrs since he was a pup, he's well trained but very boisterous (sp?)
Our ds is now 7 months old, the dog doesn't normally go near him, yesterday our ds was sitting on the floor (me behined him)the dog came up and nipped him on the hand (ds had had a rusk in his hand)he hasn't broke the skin but my ds did cry.
I haven't told my dh yet as he will want to get rid of the dog, i didn't get any sleep last night as i haven't ever kept anything from dh before.
I dont know what to do, i love our dog but obviously love our ds more...btw my dd (age 8) dotes on the dog and would be gutted if we got rid, should i tell my dh?

Of course you should tell your DH

Tricky one. Sounds as if the dog was going for the food rather than trying to bite your DS.
Try only allowing your DS to have food at the table or on the sofa. Or keeping the dog in another room when your DS is snacking.
You should tell your DH because if it is something more serious than he'll be mad that you kept it from him.

i think a dog, a baby and food on the floor can be a dangerous combination.
our dog used to think that anything on the floor was fair game.
i feel for you, it's a difficult situation.
(agreed, you shld tell dh btw)

It doesn't sound like the dog was being agressive. Keep the dog out while the baby is eating, or the baby in a highchair.

My 2yo feeds our dog treats and happily shares food with him, but this means that whenever she does eat on the floor, he at her side waiting for his turn, so he is fed his meals in another room at same time as her meals.

Btw I had this same thread a couple of days ago, my dog snarled at dd2 when she woke up and I thought he had bitten her. I think he jsut gave her a shock now tbh, but I did tell Dh and I thought he would go mad, but he reacted a lot better than I had predicted.

We are buying him a soft crate so that he has somewhere enclosed and safe to sleep away from the dc and getting in a trainer for unrelated issues. But the trainer will also assess his temprement.

When she woke him* up.

Thanks everyone, i feel so bad as i know that my dh will want to get rid of him but my dc do come first. Our dog isn't aggresive at all but he does love food and will sit and wait if anyone has got anything. we do keep him in the conservatory while we eat our main meals. I will talk to my dh when he gets in later and we'll see what happens.
