Im now 40+6 and having 3rd and final sweep today.
I need to decide whether to be induced on friday at 40+9 or wait until next monday when I will be 40+12.

My only reason to hold on is to enable me to go to brand spanking new MLU in our local hospital, with birth pools, private rooms and double beds.
If I go for induction I'll be two floors up on crummy old consultant led unit.
However I have been told that if I have a normal delivery after induction and there is room, I can go down to MLU for aftercare and help with bf.

I held on until 40+15 with ds before being induced, it was soul destroying. Plus this baby is much bigger and the longer it stays in there the bigger its getting

So WWYD? Go for friady or hang on until after the weekend?
(no suggestions of management please and refusing induction, Im not interested in that)

Hang on till 40+12, induction is more painful than spontaneous labour.

Seededbiatch · 17/11/2009 11:22

What is more important to you right now- giving birth in the MLU or getting the baby out soon?

Tambajam · 17/11/2009 11:27

I'd hold on in your situation.

stripey not true, my induction with ds was a far better experience than my spontaneous labour with dd.

Obviously having a fantastic waterbirth in the MLU is hugely important, but where do I draw the line? I cant just keep on waiting and at 40+14 they wont take me anyway. I held on and on last time and still ended up in shitty consultant led unit rather than local birth centre, I didnt feel any better for having waited and swore to myself that I would do it again.

do you think your DS was overcooked? or do you think you gestate for longer than the average person?

mosschops30 · 17/11/2009 11:54

I dont know, dd was 4 days late but spontaneous labour.
There was some issue over dates with ds, but he was definately overcooked, all dry and needed a lot of olive oil rubbing for weeks
No issues on dates with this one, only had sex one day that month so its a done deal

From reading what you said there Mosschops it sounds like giving birth in the MLU is really important to you so hang on for that, it's only 3 days.

If you can, spend those 3 days on the sofa watching your favourite films and eating chocolates, they will go fast

mosschops30 · 17/11/2009 12:30

I know but part of me just wants this baby out, theres no guarantee that if I wait the 3 days I will get to go to the MLU.

Book for Friday
If you don't fancy it then cancel it on Thursday

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 17/11/2009 13:41

OK, 90% of the time IOL is more painful. There is research that says its more likely to lead to intervention as well.

Did you end up on the syntocinon drip last time or did prostin get you going? If you go in for induction this time and prostin or ARM doesnt work are you happy to have continuous monitoring in labour and a drip?

MamaG · 17/11/2009 16:02

Aw mosschops, poor you! I hated being overdue.

ikf you do go for induction on Friday then you could tranfer to MLU afterwards which would be lovely for you.

mosschops30 · 18/11/2009 09:33

thank you stripey just realised I was teaching my grandmother how to suck eggs with that post to you, sorry {wink]
I did manage with one dose of prostin last time, no ARM or drip needed.
I would imagine that continuous monitoring is needed for the drip? Is that right? I would also want an epidural if I had to have the syntocinon.

hi mamag havent seen you for ages , I am hoping that would be the case, although in reality not sure if they would do it, or if there would be space.

Induction is booked for Monday now, am quite happy with that as if I go before then that would be great but would also be great to spend a last weekend together as a family of four so hoping to do cinema, out for food etc

No but I've seen you mosschops

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 19/11/2009 11:16

Yes, continuous monitoring is recommended if you have the syntocinon drip.

Good luck, hopefully you will go into labour by yourself Monday morning after having a nice weekend with family.
