"but of all the names, why Kai"

Presumably because they liked it. Just the same as the reason you picked your DCs names.

As a Kiwi, can I point out that Kai means food in Maori. When we were students, hanging out in the canteen was known as Kai 101.

To my ears it sounds like the child has been named 'Scoff' Wayne Rooney.

Tony that's just unnecessary isn't it.

Anyway even if the parents aren't that bright there is always regression to the mean.

There's no reason why thicky parents (not saying C&W are btw, know nothing about them) can't have an incredibly intelligent child.

I don't have any DC.

Apologies, I hate the name. Don't understand why anyone would choose it but you are right, each to their own.

KnottyLocks · 03/11/2009 11:45

Feeling bit sorry for them really. They will be over the moon with the little man but on the horizon lurks the world's opinions.

Would have hated the world and his wife to comment on my DC's names, or infact my parenting skills, which of course are faultless.

EightiesChick · 03/11/2009 12:12

Hear hear KnottyLocks. I'm sure they are thrilled with everything about Kai and if they are sensible they don't care what anyone else thinks. I have already said on the name thread about this that frankly, it was a better choice than I expected, and that I see more ludicrous name suggestions posted on the baby name threads here all the time... Plus, good on Coleen for going to an NHS hospital and for not having the early CS that had been rumoured - nothing wrong with a planned CS in itself for specific reasons, I had one myself - just annoying when footballers' wives and similar have them purely, it seems, to get the baby out early so they won't have to put on the last round of extra weight.

Dp texted me on way to work earlier to say he had read the name in the paper and was rofl. He had guessed the kid would be called Kai, Tyler or Brandon if it was a boy...lol

GunpowderTreasonAndDragons · 03/11/2009 21:11

When she was first pregnant, wasn't her plan to have a planned c-section to fit in with Wayne's schedule?

andirobobo · 03/11/2009 21:13

Just seen the piccies of the baby homecoming and spotted the Maxi-cosi car seat. So are we going to guess what pram they have gone for?? There is bound to be piccies of the proud parents strolling around some park with Baby Kai in some pram. I am guessing a Bugaboo!

Yes, the reports were that as Wayne was due to be playing for England on the due date, she was booking a CS the week before so he would definitely be there. I'm guessing that 2 things changed: firstly, England had already qualified for the World Cup before that game so it wasn't crucial anymore; and secondly, someone must have told them that it's unusual for a baby to arrive exactly on the due date so not to worry! Given that she went 9 days overdue, she was clearly happy to go the non-CS route as long as Wayne was guaranteed to be around.

I'd probably also guess a Bugaboo! Will look out for the pictures. Was pleased that they have what looks like our car seat! And that it works so well in hiding small babies from the pararazzi
