33 weeks pregnant, 2 confirmed cases of swine flu at work, 5 days left to work. Is it worth the risk or not?

Got into work this morning to find that alcohol hand gel stuff they have in hospitals all over the place. There have been 2 confirmed swine flu cases from my work.

I told my DH and parents when I got home and they were horrified I hadn't come home straight away. It never even occured to me that I shouldn't be at work.

WWYD, I only have 5 working days left at work before I leave for good, should i stay away or not?

I don't want to not go to work as I will miss my lunch and presentation and not be able to say bye to everyone, but DH and my parents think I'm mad and it's not worth the risk.

I'm going to phone HR in the morning to get the official line on it, but wondered what others thought.

Agree with everyone else. Stay away. I had a very nasty flu-like virus when i was 33wks with ds2. I went into labour at 34wks - obviously i can never be 100% sure that it was casued by the virus but i suspect it probably did.

You aint seen me roight

Two cases at dh's work as well(Southside)

Well my boss and HR agreed that I shouldn't be in so I was originally going to work from home, but HR then decided that they didn't want to set a precedent by allowing that, so i'm officially off sick next week although it will be down as pregnancy related so won't be counted.

V sensible, but still disappointing for you. Could you go in after the 7 days for your leaving thing? Maybe a friend at work could organise something.

Crikey though, that means it's the real start of the countdown to b-day! Does it feel different this time around? I nested like crazy in the last couple of weeks with ds (who ended up being late and it all got a bit old ) but I don't imagine I'd bother pulling out the fridge to clean the back of it with a toddler running about...

lucyellensmumisgreat · 18/06/2009 22:05

I wouldnt go in, if it were normal flu i wouldnt go in. Just not worth exposing yourself to a definate risk of being poorly and not being able to enjoy those precious first few weeks. Even a cold would send me packing

alittleteapot · 18/06/2009 22:08

No, don't go in. Not worth it at all.

Jumente · 18/06/2009 22:11

Don't risk it - plus not convinced the gel kills this bug, it's a virus right? Doesn't antibac stuff only work on bacteria?

I know it's useless against superbugs.

trixymalixy · 18/06/2009 23:36

Yes we're going to do the lunch another time and my manager will do a presentation then.

It does feel a bit weird smallchange that mat leave has now started. I have been eyeing up certain areas in the house that need some attention for a while now, so i think the nesting will start in earnest on Monday .

In your position there is no way on this earth that I would be risking my health and the life of my unborn child. If that means letting people down, well that's just tough. I'm glad to see you took the sensible decision.
