It's terrible Muriel isn't it?

everyone feels like that.

Grattage · 27/05/2009 13:02

no its natural I think.

mrsmaidamess · 27/05/2009 13:04

As long as you don't verbalise it, I think it's a natural reaction. We all want to look better than the person next to us, don't we?

Mintyy · 27/05/2009 13:08

I can honestly say, hand on heart, that this would not please me.

As someone with weight issues, I know how heartbreaking it is to lose weight and then put it back on again. I wouldn't wish it on anyone.

I am as smug as the next person about some things (see RIMOD's Smug thread) but not about this.

yama · 27/05/2009 13:13

I am only pleased when people I don't like put on weight so can't help you there.

spicemonster · 27/05/2009 13:17

Everyone doesn't feel like that at all. I don't. I don't understand why you would feel pleased if something happened to someone you care about if you know it makes them unhappy?

Women are so fucking bitchy about one another I find it really depressing.

TakeLovingChances · 27/05/2009 14:39

It's natural to feel that about someone we don't like.

If it was someone I was close to then I wouldn't gloat over it.

However, not everyone who puts on weight is unhappy about it. I have a friend who has gone up about 3 dress sizes and couldn't care less.

spicemonster · 27/05/2009 14:42

Even if they don't care, why would you feel pleased? Still gloating, no?

AMumInScotland · 27/05/2009 14:43

If the sister/mate had previously been a complete cow about my size, then I might feel a certain satisfaction. Otherwise no, I wouldn't be happy at something which made someone else unhappy. Why would I?

TakeLovingChances · 27/05/2009 16:45

I think it depends on the person who has put on weight, how big they are, what your own self-image is like.

I make no secret of the fact that I have very poor body-image so tend to think about body size and shape all the time.

It's a very hurtful habit to myself, but I really don't mean to judge anyone harshly.

If someone who has been mean to me in the past or someone I don't like puts on a shedload of weight I might chuckle to myself, but not if a friend or my sister did, that's different altogether.
