Compromise on a home to cut down commuting time?

Faced with a 40 minute commute to primary school...with 2 DC would you swap a (lovely, though tiny) house with a garden for a flat of similar size much closer to school?

(NB one DC is a babe in arms... though he doesn't have to do school run at present due to DH working from home currently)

Do you have other strong reasons for staying put? Like support system nearby (family/close friends) to help in emergency?

Are there other children from this school who live nearby or are they all local to the school?

Lots of things to take into consideration - if its a private school, for instance, your DCs friends will be scattered round anyway, not in one place like a state school... So moving close would not matter as far as playdates etc go.

Although 40mins sounds like a long commute for children, depending on the circs I can imagine it might possibly be worth it (and they can always get used to napping/having breakfast/snacking on the go).

I hate commuting, I would try very hard to move much closer if it were me.

Is that 40 min. one-way or round trip? 160 min. of your day is... 2.5+ hrs. Ouch!! Even 80 min. is too much. imo.

40 mins is one way though, going home after is 14 minutes, as rush hour is over...

I hadn't thought of it like that lljkk... it means that when ds is coming with us, he will spend nearly 2 hours a day in the car... NOT good.

We have to move...
