I remember adoring Grace Kelly's
May have been because I was 15 and perhaps had princess aspirations...
Peter Kay's is funny.

umbungo · 15/10/2008 15:32

sorry, that should read,

just wondering if there is anything worth reading in them.

i say that, because so much seems to be revealed and talked about in interviews, newspapers, magazines etc.

Not really a sleb, but I read Piers Morgan's diaries - the man is so full of it...

Usually just stick to the ones that are serialised in the daily newspapers ...

Tillyscoutsmum · 15/10/2008 15:39

I found Sharon Osbourne's interesting She didn't actually come across that well imho, but it was very honest.

I really enjoyed Frank Skinner's. He is from the same neck of the woods as me and I'm not sure if it was the "local" anecdotes which I found most amusing or whether it would be funny for everyone iyswim ?

Russell Brand, Chris Moyles - both a bit ....meh

My MIL buys me them every year for Christmas (not entirely sure why ?!) but I have Kerry Katona, Billie Piper, Rupert Everett and numerous others which I can't even bring myself to open. I really should get them off to a charity shop

Sunshinemummy · 15/10/2008 15:40

I love Pier's Morgan's The Insider - very very gossipy and funny.

Also liked Ruper Everett's. Just read Christoper Ciccone's - I should have known better, the man is just awful and there are no real insights.

Best ones ever though are the David Niven ones - The Moon's a Balloon is the first one. Just wonderful.

notnowbernard · 15/10/2008 15:40

John Seargant - very good, entertaining, witty

Mark Steel - gave a good account of the 70s and 80s (he was active in TU protests etc)

Danniella Westbrook - VERY honest account of her addiction to cocaine

I'd recommend all of the above. All very different but got a lot from all of them

snooks · 15/10/2008 15:41

yes frank skinner's was very enjoyable i agree. also really liked bob monkhouse's!!

notnowbernard · 15/10/2008 15:41

I did enjoy Russell Brand's but I felt like I needed a shower at the end of each chapter

elkiedee · 15/10/2008 15:44

Marianne Faithfull's memoirs published in the 1990s came across as a pretty good read, and although her drug consumption wasn't that clever she comes across as brighter than a lot of celebs on the whole. There's a newer memoir out which I've bought, and I've also bought the Mark Steel memoir.

KatieScarlett2833 · 15/10/2008 15:44

Marianne Faithfull - excellent

notnowbernard · 15/10/2008 15:46

Nelson Mandela 'Long Walk To Freedom'

Bit of an endurance test at times but a remarkable read

PortAndDemon · 15/10/2008 15:50

Oh yes, I agree with nnb about Mark Steel's (I suppose I wasn't really thinking of him as a sleb) -- it's very good and manages to be both funny and informative.

TheBlonde · 15/10/2008 15:52

I have read a couple of Jordan's - just like reading OK!
Gordon Ramsay's was dull just all about business without any informative details
Two by Piers Morgan - first one about his newspaper career was good, second one was pretty dull and navel-gazing

Just bought Russell Brands and Clarissa Dickson-something

I also thought Gordon Ramsay's was a pile of shite... boring, boring, judgey-judgey and ME ME ME (which I understand is the point of an Autobiography but I thought he showed little self-awareness)

Carmenere · 15/10/2008 15:55

Piers morgans Insider was GREAT, the follow up not so much.
Bill clintons was a load of badly edited shite and made me lose the will to live.

snooks · 15/10/2008 15:55

dh just read Anthony Kiedis's (Red Hot Chilli Peppers), he said it was basically

"...yeah, met a model, shagged her, did some drugs....met a model, shagged her, did some drugs...." ad infinitum.

Smittals · 15/10/2008 15:58

I read 'Learning to Fly' by La Posh whilst enjoying our summer holiday in Wales cos it never stopped pissing raining Genuinely interesting for learning how the Spice girls came about and if you are really desperate

jordan- ok for reading in the bath with a bottle of wine, bit to much "look who i all slept with"

sharon osbourne- gave up after a few pages-crap

kerry katona- made me understand why she is so unstable, quite a good read.

gazza- excellent (but i have always had a soft spot for him)

victoria beckham- prob my fave, in one chapter she describes how lonely she was after having brooklyn being stuck at home with no friends/family near her. she actually seemed really down to earth in it, but it is also years old now so not sure what a recent one would be like.

kerryk · 15/10/2008 16:00

gary barlows was also rubbish, my god does that man love himself!!!

Weeteeny · 15/10/2008 16:01
