What is making you happy today?

With so much negativity I keep seeing post after post, I would like to hear today some happy tales and what is making you content today from the small and the big…

Reasons why I love my (very uneventful) life today:

  1. We are healthy, some aches and pains but both coming into our 40s in good fitness and health getting out once a day for a hike / run / gym.
  2. Our adhd possible auadhd 5.5 year old is excelling. Behaviour has majorly improved since September. He’s happy healthy, loving life, has friends, tantrums are near to none now, and sleeping fantastically.
  3. My external family are all well and fine.
  4. We bought a lovely rustic home in January with the most gorgeous views and such lovely features.
  5. It’s a beautiful autumn day, bright low sun, orange leaves, we went on a lovely family walk to a waterfall today
  6. We’re now enjoying a bottle of red, cooking a homemade lasaña, DC watching an Disney movie, and dogs all asleep in front of a fireplace after a nice walk.
  7. I’m finally on hormone blockers (36yrs) and adback HRT for PMDD and I think I’ve found the solution to finally end all the depression/anger in my life.

I saw a friend a couple of hours ago shopping who was just sad, I felt so bad for him, sad about his car (didn’t pass MOT), sad about his job, and I just wanted to hug some sunshine into him because if only he looked outside the small picture and saw the beautiful free sun, woodlands, tv time under a blanket, fireplace, dogs happy, rent cheap, his health in check, instead of car/ job anxiety (he isn’t losing the job, he’s just unhappy at it), he’d be able to smile.

It’s not to say we don’t have anxiety about the future: the economy, whether we’ll ever get rid of our rustic brown and orange kitchen, whether my business will continue in an up-direction, whether our current great mortgage rate won’t double in 4 years when it ends, whether our DC will be as happy as he is in his beautiful 5 year state, but today and today only as now is when we are are living not yesterday and not tomorrow, it’s an amazing day in a regular human life.

I took my senior dog who had some bad health news yesterday for a lovely long walk, the views were amazing, the autumn leaves are just beautiful & she had a wonderful time & for now is still enjoying life which I am holding on to.

Then I came home & did outside jobs - mowing, strimming the grass too long for the mower & I chopped a bit of kindling too.

Then I lit my log burner & sat with a glass of fizz leftover from last weekend.

And best of all DS1 who has just got a job he enjoys appears to have come out of his dickhead phase & is now being delightful!! (long may it last!)

Lovely idea @Whyintheworld

I had a lovely lie in this morning followed by DH bringing me a cafetière of Harrods spiced Christmas coffee (highly recommend as a weekend treat) and breakfast in bed. He’s been really unwell lately so I’m grateful he’s on the mend. I lit a lovely candle to scent the room and we then watched the last two episodes of ‘the greatest’ on Amazon (life story of Mohammed Ali, it’s fab) in bed then took elderly DDog on a sniffy walk (he’s on borrowed time as a giant breed and I’m pretty devastated but looking for the positives whilst he’s still here) I then went to a fabulous JLo themed step class with my lovely neighbour and arrived home to find DH had baked me a lovely fresh cream Victoria sponge cake to say thanks for looking after him this past week. Sometimes you fantasise about winning the national lottery but don’t realise you might have incomparable riches already at home 🥰

I love giant breed dogs. If you don’t mind me asking, what is your breed (I used to have a Leonberger). It’s a bugger that the bigger they get, the shorter the lifespan

Bonfire night with the family. Chinese takeaway. Tons of processed sugar e.g. Party Rings, Ice Gems and other nostalgic goodies ha - my dog smiled at me, this really happened (!) and I enjoyed coffee and a fresh glass of water.

Aww, I get ridiculously pleased when I “meet” a fellow Leo owner. That’s already a great age for him, but completely understand the “but still” sentiment. My girl reached 9.5 years. If it’s not too rude to ask, please give him a cuddle from me. Do you have to still brace your knees for when he plonks himself next to you for a lean-on-Berger hug?!

Ahh yes, the leaning 😂

Sorry to hear about your lovely girl. It’s hard even though you know it’s likely isn’t it? I’m awake because he’s decided that he wanted to say hello 😂. I can’t be annoyed even though I’d rather he’d left a greeting until at least 7am…

Ha , love a Leo need to say hello 😂. My mum could fall asleep at the drop of a hat. When visiting, she’d nod off on the sofa. Was funny to watch my girl firstly stand watch and then gently shove her nose into mum’s face just to check she was still breathing 😂. Thank you for reigniting the memories re my Leo and my mum. Wishing you as many more Leo hellos as possible, even though I get the sentiment of preferring it at a more civilised hour!

It's my birthday today and, as my daughter and teenage grandsons are living with us temporarily, I got to have breakfast with all of them. I got everything I asked for in presents. We're going to have a lovely celebratory meal this evening with proper boozy trifle.

Daughter and grandsons have gone out this morning so I have taken the opportunity to go back to bed. I may have a bath later before all the hot water goes. I'm having a lovely day!

Wishing them a good recovery x

Thank you, I think his recovery would be better if they friggin listened to him about his pillows. Each new shift insist on sticking two big pillows behind his neck which triggers back pain that's keeping him awake. Even pressing his magic button doesn't help

It's something so simple, there is no medical need.. He's messaged me at 4am saying he was confused and disorientated, which could be the drugs, but lack of sleep doesn't help. He's finding it hard to communicate as he has a trachy in place

AddictedToBooks · Today 10:01

I'm happy today because

  • my dogs and cat are happy and healthy
  • my DH is happy and healthy (we always jokingly put the pets above each other).
  • We have a nice, warm home that's comfortable and really cosy as it's currently cold outside with a lifting fog.
  • I'm going to bake a pie for tonight.
  • I'm relieved that I've finished Christmas present buying and I might start wrapping them today.
  • I'm really enjoying the book that I'm currently reading.
  • I love how my male Border Collie LOVES watching Disney movies and how he has his favourites (Cinderella and Peter Pan) and right now he's snuggled against me as he watches Peter Pan.

Can you print out a notice for him and stick it to his bed?

I'm currently slowly building up my physical health, and have unfortunately developed plantar fasciitis. It's been very painful the last couple of days, but it isn't that bad this morning, and it's a beautiful day here, so I'm going for a long walk! I was a little restless in the night, and I was hoping for just this, and here it is!

That’s all lovely op, good for you. But if you tried to tell me to be thankful for the lovely sunshine on a day when I had genuine worries and woes (as I do now) I would want to punch you in the face. Being a Pollyanna is all very well but you need to have some sensitivity to other peoples lives who really do have problems (it doesn’t sound like you do have many at the moment, touch wood) and resist the urge to “hug some sunshine into” people (bleurgh! Never say that in rl will you?)

Sorry to read that you have your woes

I don’t think this is the thread for you.

Suggesting a punch in the face to someone who is expressing happiness is quite shocking here. Perhaps you’d like to start your own thread; I hope you find some solutions and a way not to take out your own pain on others

Aside from other inflammatory-related conditions improving, the Lichen Sclerosis I had for over a decade has completely disappeared on a low dose of Wegovy. My flaps feel wonderful! I’m happy for myself but also for other women that there is finally a treatment for this condition and we don’t just have to put up with it.

My widowed dad is coming to visit next week and we’re going to have a wonderful three weeks here in New York City then back to the UK together for Christmas. It will be our 4th one without my lovely mum and we’re learning to enjoy it again, instead of dreading the festive season.

Lots to be thankful for. Especially the mid-terms.
