Is it normal for a young adult to take a teddy and a comfort blanket on a plane?

Seen this a few times while travelling. The staff just stick the fluffy toys and blankets in the overhead locker so defeats the object. Maybe just try biting the seat in front of you to calm your nerves or take some valium. I'm a nervous flyer so just havd a couple of drinks.

Oh, I wish you could still get Valium for flights.

I've had an MRI scan. It's not nice but I put up with it. Suck it up. Shit happens.

Did you miss the mention of ‘learning disability’?

Drugs are bad, m'kay as Southpark used to say. Officially, I am on drugs: statins, blood pressure tablets and omeprazole, all life saving medication. There are people who think we're bad for taking drugs. I also did take valium years ago. Works a treat on flights.

Yes, I found it very helpful for flying but apparently Drs won’t give it for that anymore. I can understand that (but if they looked at my records they’d see that I only asked for a small amount every couple of years so no evidence of a problem).

I can’t use alcohol instead cause it’s minging.

There's been a puritanical over reaction to drugs like valium and tranquillisers for years. They work!

They do work @YourAmplePlumPoster but they’re also highly addictive so I think it’s fair enough that they’re restricted, even though I would quite like one for the rare occasions I fly!

YourAmplePlumPoster · 31/10/2026 17:22

Alcohol is the most addictive of all but they don't ban it!

OP posts:
brownbootsandhats · 31/10/2026 17:24

Teddy bears are probably barely addictive at all but you seem to think they should be banned for adults so …

True dat. I think if it was a new thing just being discovered now it would possibly be illegal. It does untold damage.

Waitingfordoggo · 31/10/2026 17:30

It’s pretty grim that your DS uses that sort of terminology though @YourAmplePlumPoster . You should tell him not to.

So the Valium works for a treat in flights… but surely you just need to suck it up like the ones wanting a teddy or a blanket.

Harmless better than alcohol.

Greatest danger is any road journey to and from the airport. After all pilots are able to do their job unlike the many unfit car drivers.

That alone says so much about your family! That you even think that word is usable in any context is disgusting

YourAmplePlumPoster · 31/10/2026 18:00

Mumsnet doesn't like the language my son uses to me and deletes it because they live in an alternative middle class reality, so they delete the post.

No they deleted it because it is a word that has no place at all in today’s society.

I love my son. The most important thing. Your mimssy wimsy stuff and middle class snitching and fainting doesn't matter as the mumsnet middle class fainting and snelling salts doesn't matter, deleted deleted...

There is nothing at all wrong with drugs in the form of medications in reason. Ds takes 10 different ones a day they keep him alive.

however they should always be taken with caution and alongside other approaches to help. They aren’t the be all and end all. Statins should come with advice on dietary changes for example. Anti depressants should ideally be used alongside therapy and other options to help deal with the issues.

Which shows you know it’s unacceptable but still did it! Not helping your case here 🤣

Glad to hear you think my mentally ill son with schizophrenia is disgusting. That kind of sums up what most people in society think about him. Luckily, he has a family who don't think he's disgusting and take care of him. One two three deleted,

I said his language was disgusting not him. The fact you deem it repeatable on a public forum explains a lot though.

Have you realised yet he's unwell? But go on, put the boot in cause he deserves a good kicking.

You think he's disgusting and should be marginated. That's all I need to know. Why can't they send these people to camps and get them out of our sight?
