Would you live in a house with a tragic/dark history?

I've just gone down a rabbit hole thanks to a book I'm reading and found this. It's a lovely little flat in a great location and for the time, a brilliant price. But would I want to live there? I don't know. I'm not given to woo and I'm quite level-headed but I'm not sure I'd fancy it tbh.

Would you live in a house that had a dark history? Particularly if you could get it for a knock down price?

No, I know I wouldn’t as I found the perfect house but it turned out the owner had hung himself in the lounge and that was enough to put me off, was a lovely house as well.

how did you find out? do they have to tell you when they sell?

My houses have tended to be older and I know as fact about births and (natural) deaths in some of them, down to the rooms involved and it doesn't bother me at all, part of life. Many of us could be living in places where horrendous (DV, child abuse) but not notorious things happened.

I'm a bit oblivious to atmosphere I think and there is only one place (a very well known Royal home) that made me feel genuinely uncomfortable. Years later I read a book by someone who had visited in the 50s which said he felt exactly as I had.

I would draw the line at that flat in the OP, as I’d be worried there might still be traces. But in general it wouldn’t bother me.

Seriously? Why would ‘they’ have to tell, you someone died in a house?

Fiddlesticks1 · Today 14:49

I recall a house where three people were killed in it. It was a semi. This was back in the eighties and took a good few years to sell. Me I’m a boo so definitely not.

I knew it would.be that flat. No I could not.live there. I think they should demolish it

Agree, I live 5 minutes away from that flat and they definitely should have razed the whole house to the ground.
If the victims of that man had been heterosexual they probably would have done.

Which royal place please?

Of course!

Concepts like "evil" are ignorant Dark Ages nonsense, and the notion that a building is inherently linked to or influenced by events which take place within it is laughable.

Yes the estate agent had to disclose the information, he said they have no interest after the disclosures on first viewing.

They do have to tell you if it’s something like this that was in the local news.

I walk past that flat fairly regularly, it’s a lovely area.

I wouldn’t live there though, it would be on my mind too much. If the details were less well known it would be different.

Same here, that road is beautiful in spring when tree blossoms are out

I had a colleague that viewed twice the other flat where Nilsson killed people. They seriously considered it due to price then decided they couldn’t live there.

My neighbours bought their house not knowing the previous owner went crazy and his wife committed suicide. I hope they never find out. They’ve made a very sad house into a bright and cheerful one.

Tinydanceer · Today 16:02

definitely not this one! Could never be at peace there

but all houses must have had deaths in them we’d never know about

DinoLil · Today 16:03

I live in a house over 200yrs old. I'm sure many a person has died here. But, when I viewed it, it was like walking into a hug. I hope I die here as well!
