I know this is hypothetical but I’m so anxious about all the war talk and it got me thinking what would happen if the uk government introduced conscription like would women have to go and leave our children what would happen if we refuse this whole situation is so worrisome ch

Correct this govt would let Russia or anyone just walk in and not degfend

Don't be ridiculous. You're spouting shit off Tiktok.

This exact thread appears every 6 months or so, it’s so tedious.

The military will not want to be saddled with a load of young adults with no basic life skills. It is all technical expertise, engineering, cyber security, drones.
We should be focusing on growing and producing food. That is something that could be good for mental health.

It’s not reassurance it’s knowing what could potentially happen and no current plans doesn’t mean it won’t happen

You could hypothetically step out of your front door tomorrow, be tractor-beamed by ET's, and whisked off to another dimension never to be seen again. Why aren't you shitting yourself about this prospect?

If you spend this much energy obsessing and fretting over things which are vanishingly unlikely to ever become reality that you feel compelled to voice it on the internet, then you really need to go and speak to a professional about anxiety. I'm saying that out of concern, not because I'm trying to mock you.

Serenity75 · 26/10/2026 09:11

Even Ukraine who are facing a proper 4 year existential threat to their country haven’t called up women. The whole point of funding and supporting Ukraine is to stop Russia there so that they don’t move further west. It’s probably the oldest type of British foreign policy about….paying others to fight for our interests in Europe.

we are so far away from arming anxious women with young children and sending them off to a trench that you really don’t need to worry. Maybe see this as a good reason to go and see the doctor about your anxiety (we’ll need you fighting fit once the Russians have finally defeated the Ukraine and then gone through Poland, Czechia, Germany, Belgium, France and have managed to crossed the channel and landed in Dover).

Yes the new generation is weak and self entitled sadly no pride or respect for the country that treats them like babies

Which war did you fight in?

5128gap · 26/10/2026 09:18

Think about it sensibly OP. Conscripted for what exactly? We live in very different times to former world wars, and we won't be needing people to defend and attack in person when we have modern weapons of war.
So if ever it was 'all hands to the pump for national security' you'd find yourself far more likely sat behind a screen than sitting in a trench.
In the worst case scenario I imagine people may be called off their day jobs to work towards the war effort. In much the same way some factories stopped making their product to make ventilators during covid. So certain occupations may no longer be done to serve shareholders and customers, but to serve the war effort.
As for women, the biological reality is that women of child bearing age are a more valuable resource when it comes to rebuilding the population than men. So any government who put equality ahead of this undeniable fact and sent large numbers of its female population into danger, would be short sighted in the extreme.

War can now be conducted from hundreds of miles away. It's not 1939.

RedSpotTeaPot · 26/10/2026 09:23

From this and your other thread OP you seem VERY wound up about this.

For the whole of history there's been some threat. This is just another.

Get out there, get busy, see some people and have a nice chat.

Life goes on and you don't want to waste it worrying about something that might never happen.

Of course our current government wouldn't do that. Reform might though.

Reform's support for Ukraine is less whole hearted than the major parties, and their criticism of Russia and Putin is more measured.

I neither like nor trust Reform, but I suspect they'd try harder to keep us out of WW3 than the two main parties.

It can be at times, but I think we need to be careful of that POV because it's used as an excuse by many (including some in Westminster) for not thinking about and spending money on conventional basic warfare.

The drone/cyber/AI acolytes push the line because it justifies their calls for more investment but Ukraine has shown on occasions it's been back to mass assaults by the Poor Bloody Infantry (usually Russian) at times beaten back by Ukrainian infantry (using drones etc as an extra resource).

I'm not for one minute suggesting the Russians are about to cross the channel and IMO conscription would be questionable for all sorts of reasons, but even nowadays not all warfare is remote...

I suppose Reform is unlikely to bite the hand that feeds it.

Donors like Christopher Harbourne (£5 million). His commercial ventures have indirect links to Russian-supplied oil and cryptocurrency networks.

David Lilley (£100k). Lilley has assets in Russia including 12,000 acres of agricultural land.

Also see Nathan Gill, Reform's ex-leader in Wales who Gill accepted up to £40,000 between 2018 and 2019 from Oleg Voloshyn in exchange for making pro-Russian speeches and statements in the European Parliament.

Monty36 · 26/10/2026 10:06

I think it unlikely conscription will occur.
But many people are ill. So we are in a poor place to defend ourselves. That and nearly half the population are not prepared to defend themselves, fellow citizens or our lands. So we would have a bit of a problem.

Agree with this.

SnowFrogJelly · 26/10/2026 10:08

Not going to happen

Whosthetabbynow · 26/10/2026 10:29

Any “war” will go on behind the scenes. It’ll involve cutting power and oil supplies. Fucking with our banking systems. Disrupting flight data. Hacking into Marks and Spencer. It won’t be a “Dad’s Army” scenario.

Whosthetabbynow · 26/10/2026 10:32

To add: any “conscription” (to use your words) could be to MI5 or MI6 but that would be called recruitment, for those that are interested in working behind the scenes.

Pedallleur · 26/10/2026 11:45

Some people need to get a grip. Remember my parents talking about the Cuban missile crisis. That was a genuine 2 minutes to midnight and yet Britain still went to work, watched the football match, ate chips and carried on.

FindingMeno · 26/10/2026 12:12

The way things are in the world right now we should all toughen up a bit tbh.
Does anyone think Ukrainian women don't feel fear?
We are not special you know.

No 24 hours news then, though. It was three TV channels and the papers.

1dayatatime · 26/10/2026 20:46

Seriously though regardless of conscription 50% of people said that they would never fight for their country regardless under any circumstance. Only 6% would volunteer.

And why would they? 18-25 year olds have been taught by schools and universities for the last 30 years that Britain's history is a colonialist, oppressive, imperialist and racist leading most to be ashamed of their country and certainly not one to fight for or be proud of.

And what's worse those that would volunteer to defend their country would then be mocked or described as far right or racists by the soy boys and white liberal women.

Nah - it's far easier to let the likes of Putin stroll in and then the liberal left really would have something to complain about - except they wouldn't, because it would be too dangerous for them to do so.

Daffodilsearch · 26/10/2026 21:06

If saying more people were needed in the event of war, some people would apply voluntarily and I'd suspect the next batch would be people who are unemployed and would be required to provide support behind the scenes.

toweldry · 26/10/2026 21:08

We are an ageing population without enough young so it doesn’t make sense to send them to war.

Only 6 % of people would volunteer to join up. As for the unemployed, there are currently 1.7 million unemployed but 2.77 million long term sick. Faced with the prospect of being called up the unemployed would simply register as long term sick.

MacronsPensWiper · 26/10/2026 22:21

Op we are looking at a very strange future and non of us know what it will hold.
I can't help feel we will get to a situation where robots will fight robots with drones.

At the moment I wouldn't worry about conscription but it's not a stretch when we have seen clips of that army guy telling troops the government will have to tell the public hard choices need making !

We are being told to stoke pile food and we are being told by some people they have never seen such uncertain times.
