Any contact lenses wearers?

I’m new to wearing contact lenses, and my optician advised me to wash my hands and then dry them with a LINT-FREE towel before handling my lenses.
He really stressed the importance of not getting any tap water on the lenses from my fingers.
What lint-free towel do you use? Or do you use paper towels instead? I’d be grateful for any recommendations!! Thanks xx

I’m the one who changes our bathroom handtowels, so I know roughly how long it’s been there, if feels damp but I know I only put it out say earlier that day I use a dry bit instead, or it’s been out longer or is damp all over then I just change it, the clean ones and the laundry basket are right there. If there isn't a clean one there I’d use a clean flannel instead, we have a basket of those too. I don’t get too worried about it though.

The bug from water is harmless in general unless it gets trapped against your eyes. I saw a programme years ago about a guy who went blind from it. It was awful. My optician said as it’s not treatable they warm against it but he actually hasn’t seen a case himself. It’s not worth the risk.

It is treatable if you catch it early enough. The clue is the searing pain! Never ignore eye pain if you’re a contact lens wearer.

I've had them for 45 years! I don't use fabric conditioner on towels so mine aren't fluffy so no problem with inserting my lenses. When I'm away from home I take a hand towel or a roll of kitchen paper, in case the towels provided are fluffy.
I know two people who got a nasty infection from showering wearing their lenses. Both said it was agonising pain. Luckily, neither lost any sight permanently, but one will never be able to wear lenses again.
I started off with hard lenses, then gas permeable, then soft and now daily disposables, which are by far the best, in my opinion.
