That was such an underrated show!

on ITVX, you might like Marchlands and Midwinter of the Spirit. They’re quite good

I think Amazon still has Harry Price - Ghost Hunter - I thought that was terrific.

@EmeraldRoulette thanks for that. this thread is not lively is it! Also found The secret of crickley Hall 2012. Looks good

Crickley Hall is good, but I was a bit disappointed with the end.

you posted quite late last night. So you might get more suggestions tonight.

Yes, it was excellent!

Appaloosa2000 · 18/10/2026 20:53

American horror story. Lots of different series covering lots of spooky topics.
The Dr sleep film is really creepy.

I didn’t like it
I actually didn’t finish watching it

by the way, it’s not ghostly… or is it?… but you might enjoy “The Watcher” on Netflix.

ShakyBake · 18/10/2026 20:59

I don't know if you've ever heard of the book series 'Goosebumps'? Perhaps aimed at a younger audience but they are everso good and there was 1 I read and couldn't sleep for 2 weeks after without the light on

LittleWeirdo · 19/10/2026 09:47

Not ghostly but a new series Carrie on Prime, really well done. Extends and updates the Stephen King story.

Raiderofthelostbattenburg · 19/10/2026 09:50

I thought Hare House by Sally Hinchcliffe was a really great, atmospheric spooky read.

Nautiesdese · 19/10/2026 10:38

Look on Really and Blaze channels after 9pm. They often have ghost programmes,

RumNotRun · 19/10/2026 12:13

Sarah Rayne is really good. I've just discovered her books and am hooked. The theatre of thieves series is great, but all her books are gothic mysteries and a bit spooky. I think most, maybe all, are on kindle unlimited if you have that. She includes a lot of historical information which I love. For instance the Theatre of Thieves books are set in 1908 but one has flashbacks to 1480s (two princes in the tower) and another to the time of Catherine the Great.

The series I am reading from her is the Nell West and Michael Flint series which definitely have spooky bits in them.

TheCountessofLocksley · 19/10/2026 12:37

Dark Matter by Michelle Paver is a good atmospheric read.

I recommend The Lovecraft Investigations on bbc sounds. It’s fiction but in the style of a podcast. Also recommend Adam Neville’s books, The Ritual in particular. And if you haven’t seen it already the movie Ghost Story which has Martin Freeman, Paul Whitehouse and Andy Nymanbased in a successful stage play.

Oh my God, that play

I was properly terrified. Till about 4 am!

Not a film but a book.

I dare you to read The Dark Sacrament: True Stories of Modern-Day Demon Possession and Exorcism by David Kiely with all the lights off and only a candle for guidance.

Then report back how you felt.

I guarantee you'll be more scared than a priest who hears the demon whisper, ‘Father, you should have stayed dead"....

EmeraldRoulette · 19/10/2026 18:40

@moonbubbles i’m not sure I could read that

There was a book by Will Storr which was meant to be a comedy book originally I think…. The things that he barely outlined, which he himself said made him very uncomfortable, they really freaked me out actually.

i’m sure it’s very interesting, but sometimes when I’ve read real life stuff, I suddenly get a sense that I’ve gone too far.

I actually haven’t read anything like this for ages.

To be fair I dont recommend it - I didnt sleep for a month afterwards but I assume OP likes being scared? in which case its an excellent choice!!

StarCourt · 19/10/2026 18:57

For podcasts try Scary, the narrator Will has the most soothing voice

LyndaSnellsSniff · 19/10/2026 19:31

Are you after fictional stories in particular?

But there’s a difference between being scared from fictional stuff and real life stuf…..

I won’t name names because I don’t want to do a spoiler, but there was one film that I watched having no idea that it was based on a true story…. Then it came up at the end and I had to be peeled off the ceiling!

Edited

Oh - this isnt fake stuff, this is ALL real. Witnessed by several people and happened in real life. If it was fake, I wouldnt have been remotely scared!! Blimey, if it had been fake I wouldnt have recommended it!
