I’m moving house on 26th October - next week will be busy with getting things ready so no time for lots of cooking and I’m trying not to move too much random food to the new house.

What should we have for dinner? I also need lunches for DH (I wfh so can forage) and a few breakfast bits/snacks.

I’m hoping to throw myself on my ILs mercy for dinner the night before when everything is packed away!

DH hates jacket potatoes otherwise that would probably be top of the list.

So where is he in all this? He seems to have a lot of preferences and expectations. What is he doing to turn the odds and ends of food in the house into edible meals?

People on mn are so weird - it’s okay to take on responsibility for one job you know. I’m the main cook of the house so I do the food shop.

DH is busy emptying the loft, taking things to the dump and organising for large, heavy items we aren’t keeping to be collected from outside the house.

It's not weird at all. It's like if you were sabotaging his attempts to empty the loft by refusing to allow him to dispose of things that you don’t need and haven't used in years.

So instead of him just having eggs on toast, pasta or whatever you have in that can be cooked easily you're doing a load of mental gymnastics to accommodate his preferences and yet you don't even realise it.

Apart from he hasn’t actually said anything to me - I just know that food is important to him and want to consider his views when arranging what he eats for the week
