Manspreading in Starbucks

StarCourt · 16/10/2026 11:50

I’m in Starbucks, 2 men sat opposite each other on low seats by the window. One wearing shorts and sat with one leg on the low ‘windowsill’ and the other

leg splayed out a foot in the other direction.
he’s slouched in a low chair pretty much legs akimbo. Nothing on show as such but Just why?

Because your cock and balls are in between your legs and it can be uncomfortable. Best to give them some room and an airing to avoid getting squashed and sweaty.

StarCourt · 16/10/2026 12:07

He’s giving them a lot of room, in public.

As long as someone isn't encroaching on anyone else's space, why does it matter how they are sitting? Man spreading on the tube, definitely not. But is he in anyone's way in the café?

Pumpkinsaregrowingnicely · 16/10/2026 12:11

My dh needs a lot of room...

LadyLooo · 16/10/2026 12:14

I expect that's how he's comfortable.

Weird thread, it's not like he's encroaching on anyone's space.

StarCourt · 16/10/2026 12:29

No he’s not encroaching on anyone’s space but he really is ‘legs akimbo’.
can’t imagine a woman sitting like that.

I'm still struggling to see what the problem is? Why do you care how anyone sits? You're being weird about this.

I agree that most women don't sit like that, but there's no law stopping us. We're just conditioned not to - mainly, I'd say, by other women. I really don't think men give a damn how women sit. Sit however you want and stop gawping at people's crotches.

And?

He's not sitting there naked, I assume.

HoldMyWine · 16/10/2026 12:37

If he’s not in anyone’s way I don’t see what the problem is?

How about you air out your sweaty genitalia in private instead of in a place where people are having food and drink.

And if they are so huge and swollen that you need your legs splayed a metre apart, you've got problems more serious than sweatiness.

MozzieFreeZone · 16/10/2026 12:40

The op says there is nothing on display @AmyDudley

What's that got to do with my answer to the poster claiming the need to air out his cock and balls? Airing out involves the releasing of sweaty extrusions into he atmosphere, I consider that a private activity. You may think it is fine to have genitals aired in eating places, we'll have to agree to differ.

I get that men like to air out their genitals, my dog does it, but he's a dog and has no social awareness, the again even he doesn't do it in public.

The very last thing I’m doing is gawping at his crotch but it’s impossible to not see.

This is a very sexist comment. Imagine I said that about a woman with large breasts.

OK, I've imagined it and I'm fine. I've got large breasts, I don;t air them out in public, and yes I've had breast cancer so if they got so extraordinarily large that I felt the need to air them out regardless of where I was, I would be worried.

What is sexist is men thinking they own public spaces and spreading themselves out to the discomfort of women who also have to use those spaces.

HesterLeggatt · 16/10/2026 12:57

That’s not manspreading though - manspreading is when it’s encroaching on other people’s space, this is just you weirdly objecting to somebody sitting, minding their own business. 🤷‍♀️

MozzieFreeZone · 16/10/2026 13:06

They weren't encroaching on anyone else's space - I am sure the op would have said that if they were.

Pootles34 · 16/10/2026 13:07

You're being a bit ridiculous. He's not encroaching on your space, so long as nothing is 'showing' he's fine.

hehe

I quite often sit with my 'legs akimbo' - cause - why not?😎

Charmed I'm sure

Moros · 16/10/2026 13:30

Maybe he's got a hip problem or other medical condition that makes it painful to sit with his knees tightly together. Or maybe he just thinks that sitting with his legs a foot apart is nobody else's business.

Theres truth in that but the way he’s sitting in a public space just seems inappropriate.
slouched back in a low chair, one leg up and out to the side, the other out to the other side. He couldn’t be more ‘look at me’ if he had a neon arrow sign pointing at him.

Why would you need to?

This thread is getting odder and odder.

Is anyone else envisaging Fanny from Ghosts at this point?
