Yes I have. Very informative and thought provoking. I'd recommend it to everyone.

I think what I took away was there is actually a lot we can be doing which will make a difference

I’d be very interested in this, but it looks as though screenings in my area are invitation only.

JustHereForTheShitsAndGiggles · 13/10/2026 00:37

Please keep promoting this! It's such an important watch. Hopefully it will be discussed in parliament soon to make it shown on national TV.

If we can keep lobbying our MPs to get this shown, 170 MPs have signed up, more are needed

I have booked to see it, luckily 2 showings relatively near to me.

SomeoneIsWrongOnTheInternet · 14/10/2026 21:03

Thanks for this, cos I saw it on here, looked up local filmings and jumped on them. I guess that to some, perhaps to many, it us a hard hitting film and I hope it makes a difference.

What I will say though is how infuriating and frustrating it is. There was nothing new in that film, nothing I did not already know. None of it was news to me. I knew about most of this as a student 30 years ago, even the potential collapse of the AMOC is something I knew about 15- 20 years ago.

Yet have we had real action and change in that time? What we’ve had is the creation and driving of the very economy that causes the worst damage, globalism and neoliberalism, and those of us who protest and complained in any way about the creation of this system have been alienated and disempowered.

Our government is in thrall to the businesses and individuals that have driven this, and our entire system is a fully paid up member and part of the culture that has driven this. Every time we have called for change, every time we’ve had a reality check it lasts for a few seconds before the pedal gets driven down to the metal for the greed and power of the rich and the mindlessness of masses, who are two halves of the whole.

It made me utterly despair that we STILL have to spell this out in words of one syllable. And it will still be ignored.

Thecows · 14/10/2026 21:07

I agree, been aware for 45 years, just watching it all unfold is the ultimate in despair, we knew!!

SomeoneIsWrongOnTheInternet · 14/10/2026 21:10

I am glad Chris Packham put this together though. Shame he couldn’t do it a few years ago, or the ‘national treasure’ David Attenborough didn’t, shame all these wonderful media celebrities that have been created didn’t. Thank goodness for him.

Fledgedup · 14/10/2026 21:16

Is there any way of watching this at home? I have trouble going out.

SomeoneIsWrongOnTheInternet · 14/10/2026 21:38

I’m not sure. There’s certainly a website which has a short film and a transcript on it.

That’s at https://www.nebriefing.org/expert-briefings/opening

Anyone interested in how long this has been known about could also quickly look up the 2006 - yes 2006 - film ‘An Inconvenient Truth’ with Al Gore. And it was old news then.

I too hope it comes to a tv near me, @Fledgedup .

I have at various times been quite extreme in my green lifestyle choices. Inevitably, a moment comes when I wonder why the hell I’m doing this tiny drop of abstention, in a world where excess is the rule. So I’m living a very normal life at the moment, albeit a low consumption one.

I’m basically hoping science rescues us.

IthinkIamAnAlien · 14/10/2026 22:08

An update has been done and recently shown, here is a link, it is well worth watching, it is full of information and suggestions for what we could do and should do faqs etc.

I just do not see the point in individuals such as me making any changes when the real damage to the environment is being done on an enormous global scale way outside of any influence I have.
It feels futile.

SomeoneIsWrongOnTheInternet · 16/10/2026 07:38

The enormous global scale is driven by small local demand. What sort of changes were you thinking? I don’t think anyone’s expecting everybody to give up all their worldly goods and go off grid in a caravan in Wales. We haven’t the room for everyone to do that! But you could swap a gas guzzling car for a smaller more efficient one, and consider if you could afford an EV. Solar panes have now become popular because the economics work if you have the upfront costs. Insulation is always damn valuable and pays for itself.

I always get annoyed about the way we’ve been impoverished deliberately for 40 years. Landlords have no incentive to improve housing.

MrsBennetsPoorNervesAreBack · 16/10/2026 07:40

I've booked to go next month.

Benvenuto · 16/10/2026 08:01

@VillageFete@GenghaYou could always organise your own showing - the one DH went to happened just because someone local to us thought we should have one (unfortunately I couldn’t go to that one so need to find another showing).

@Ineversaidthatactually- I understand the feelings of futility. We have always tried to be responsible re the environment and at times I feel a complete mug for doing so. That said, I think the debate needs to move from individuals making “good choices” to more collective action needed to deal with a rapidly evolving situation.

For example yesterday, I read a report on how some water companies are wanting to expand drought action to restrictions on golf courses, private schools etc. I first heard about that that as a means of tackling the drought 2 months ago (on Radio 5). We have been in drought for months so there’s a good question about why this is only happening now?

Flooding is the other side of the drought issue & there are other issues like this - there is stuff that individuals can do (since listening to R5 I’ve been very conscientious re throwing any waste water (eg from water bottles) on my garden & improving soil quality) but the greater need is for local & central government to act. I think one aim of the Emergency Briefing is for people to write to their MPs to ask for action.

FillyourPothole · 16/10/2026 08:10

Why can't they just stream it online, on vimeo or youtube or something?

Why do we have to go to a 'viewing' or organise a 'viewing'? Surely people going to 'viewings' only creates more unnecessary travel pollution?

Sunshineandrainbow · 16/10/2026 08:11

2 near me but invitation only!!!! I will keep checking back as not in a position to organise a showing.

No, but you can upload your own films to both vimeo and youtube.

They seem to want as many people to see it as possible, but are restricting it to private viewings.

I understand they want the end discussion to instigate action but I honestly have barely any spare time to attend a viewing.being a full time working single mum. Most things I tend to watch in 20 minute bursts over an evening as it is. If I see the film I'll understand when local action is publicised and will take it, IYSWIM.

Yet have we had real action and change in that time?

Yes we have. The UK has cut domestic carbon intensity by two-thirds from its peak and consumption-based by half, despite getting richer.

Global carbon intensity is creeping up slowly. It’s rising largely because literal billions of people have been lifted from extreme poverty in India and China in that period. Driven largely by globalisation and market reforms that you dislike.

You are free to still bemoan the trajectory of the last 30 years, but what globalisation and markets have done to living standards in the modern era are nothing short of a miracle. What alternative system has done similar?

RosaMundi27 · 16/10/2026 08:47

So, if I understand this, people are saying that some of the predictions about climate change were made 40 years ago... so, have they happened yet, or is the date just pushed ever forward into the future?
Am I the only person to think it's extremely weird to have a film called an "emergency briefing" as if it came from the government, but is actually made by activists?
