Is it covid?

Or am I just forgetting what a bad cold feels like? I feel bunged up, sinusey, taste & smell have gone and I'm beyond shattered. I've come home from work which I wouldn't generally do with a cold. Lots of people at work are or have been ill too.
(I know I could do a covid test and I might do.)

To be honest everyone on here will just tell you it’s definitely Covid. Every thread where someone says they are ill, no matter what the symptoms, someone will say it’s Covid. Even if you test negative, they’ll say the test just wasn’t picking it up and it’s still definitely Covid.

PhilomenaFitzFilopardi · 12/10/2026 13:14

Does it matter? You feel ill /no need to give it as label. Have just gone down with bad cough and sorr throat -have only ever had a cough during Covid so might well be that - but ‘treatment’ is the same as a cold /ir rest /fluids/paracetamol… no point ‘testing’ - the bonkers covid panic is long gone.

I suppose not, no. Just interested as to whether it's doing the rounds I suppose. And I do feel like it sounds a bit lamer to take time off work with a cold than with covid if I'm totally honest.

Could be anything .... so many viruses. Maybe the flu if you are really struggling

Peridot1 · 12/10/2026 13:19

It is doing the rounds apparently. My neighbour is a pharmacist and we were talking about it yesterday.

PhilomenaFitzFilopardi · 12/10/2026 13:23

Was told by the vet (so medical but not human medicine 😂) that there is always a spike when people are getting the yearly update jab (yes apparently they still are !!!!) they are initially shedding the virus onto people around them.

Peridot1 · 12/10/2026 13:25

I suppose that makes sense @PhilomenaFitzFilopardi.

I didn’t think the Covid vaccine was a live vaccine? You can only “shed” a live vaccine.

thepurplepenguin · 12/10/2026 13:49

Bollocks. The COVID booster programme opened on the 1st October, most pharmacies only got it in last week. There has been an uptick in cases that started a few weeks ago because there's a new variant.

And that's not how the COVID vaccination works, it's not a live virus.

Peridot1 · 12/10/2026 13:51

Oh. Ok. Interesting!

I think it will forever be “doing the rounds”, just like a cold.

If you are not well enough to work surely it doesnt matter if its covid or another virus?

I guess not. Just having a chat because it's a chat forum!

I started with a tickly cough and then a sore throat, cold ensued and then a temperature. I was in bed for five days and took another ten days to recover. I think we have all forgotten what flu is like.

That sounds rough. Do you know what, I'm not certain if I've ever had flu. Covid, and glandular fever, yes. Maybe it's flu!

We get flu jabs at work next month which I'll definitely have but it seems a bit late in the year. Ideally I feel like we should have them earlier.

If you are not well, stay home. It doesn’t matter what you might have. 🤷‍♀️

Cheesecake53 · 12/10/2026 16:50

I am trying to get tests and Medisafe cancelled my Saturday order today because they're out of stock, Boots has stock coming in, but they say not when and Amazon prime can only deliver by Thursday.

It matters because infected people can pass covid onto the vulnerable, eg the immune suppressed.

Same if is a cold or flu or anything…😂
People aren’t spooked by cynical scaremongering as they were on 2020 -not going to taken for mugs again, despite the deranged few who would love the drama.

No they won't actually. There's been plenty of us (and several threads about it) who have all been suffering much the same symptoms, and many of us have taken a covid test which has been negative. Some will test and be positive obviously, but there seems to be a particularly nasty cold thing going around at the moment. It absolutely knocks you for six.

Okay but at some point they have to take precautions it’s their own health.
