Anyone from Leeds? Do you like the city?

I’ve applied for a job that’s based there, it’s just 1-2 days a week.

I’ve been to Leeds before but it was a quick visit.

What’s your opinion? Do you like it?

My son lives there & my husband works there 3 days a week. It’s a great city.

ApolloandDaphne · 10/10/2026 20:02

My DD lives there. It's great. I love visiting.

RandomMess · 10/10/2026 20:03

I love visiting it.

My daughter went to uni in Leeds and loved it so much she stayed. It’s a great city.

We live a 30 min train ride away and love going into Leeds, great city went in last Saturday later afternoon and it was so busy, great buzz.

DistantEarlyWarning · 10/10/2026 20:31

I love Leeds. I lived there for many years and it makes me so happy to go back. It’s my city, despite being born a Manc.

Whereabouts would you be based?

KimberWozRobbed · 10/10/2026 20:31

My daughter has just started university there and loves it. Always seems very busy there and I was surprised at how much I liked it.

Bjorkdidit · 10/10/2026 20:34

It is indeed a great city. All the big city amenities, culture etc, lots of opportunities, well placed for travel elsewhere, 4 national parks in under an hour's drive. Good choice of affordable housing as long as you can think outside the MN North Leeds only expectation.

However public transport isn't great in some areas, Leeds is famously the largest city in western Europe without a mass transit system.

Nocameltoeleggingsplease · 10/10/2026 20:35

I have lived in Leeds all my life.
Its a great place to live.

DanaScullysLegoHair · 10/10/2026 20:42

Leeds is fab! DP is Southern, I'm a Loiner (Leeds native). They are always amazed by how cool Leeds is and how far from the flat cap and whippet rhetroic it is.

Lots of opportunities, all the big city pros and cons. Some areas good, some less desirable. Very close to Manc, York and other 'pretty' places via rail.

In all honesty, as a PP said - the public transport is lacking. If you are close to a trai station that serves the city centre, then great. Otherwise, if you have to be at work for 9 and are relying on the bus, then be on it no later than 7:45 is my advice.

Good luck!

Moved to Leeds 15 years ago having moved around lots and lived in 6 other towns and cities in the south of England. I haven’t left Leeds and can’t imagine I ever will. It has everything. Great city, enjoy.

GreenEyesMillennial · 10/10/2026 20:51

I moved to Leeds 15 years ago, work in city centre and live 10 minutes via train. Loads to do, loads of lovely restaurants, great for shopping. Countryside on doorstep! We love it

keepswimming38 · 10/10/2026 22:38

Yes we live in Leeds and love it. You will too, I’m sure.

A what? I was born there and haven’t heard that term! Great city though…. Much improved since I left!

My daughter is at uni there now and is planning on doing the same!

DaftHapeth · 10/10/2026 22:48

I stayed after uni and have been here over 30 years. The city centre has had its down times over the decades but is currently very much on the up, and we’re all looking forward to them finally finishing the bloody train station as it’s not been a good first impression for too many years.

I love taking people to the Corn Exchange and Victoria Quarters - they’re often surprised we have all the nice shops and swanky bars and restaurants as well as a fantastic theatre/gig culture and buzzy nightlife.

The centre is compact so it’s a joy to shop in or go for a night out. There is countryside all around and easy access to lovely towns as well as other cities. And it’s not just a myth that it’s friendly, either!

I am sure you’ll be very happy here 😍

Harvey Nicks is going though! Flannels are moving in!

Administrators were appointed in June and HN was bought by Mike Ashley.

I like Leeds a lot. I moved there from London in 1980 and lived there for 17 years. I live in South Yorkshire and pop up to Leeds fairly regularly. Leeds has a a buzz that Sheffield doesn't.

The Victorian arcades and Corn Exchange are beautiful. There are museums and art galleries, theatres, Northern Ballet, Opera North, the canal and river Aire, a huge M &S (which started in Leeds), loads of brilliant places to eat, Whitelocks (a pub that is over 300 years old), Roundhay Park, Kirkstall Abbey, Temple Newsham, three universities an airport and regular trains to London and ither major cities - I could go on.

I don't work for Leeds tourist information office - honestly 😁 but Leeds has such a lot going for it.

It really needs a mass public transport system though, and now that a lot of the city centre is one way it isn't the best place to drive around.

Seeing as I've only been in a couple of times and never bought anything from there, it won't make a difference to me.

The Royal Amouries museum is something else worth mentioning, also nearby Wakefield Sculpture triangle including the Hepworth gallery and Yorkshire Sculpture Park.

ElizaSchuyler · 12/10/2026 10:26

I was in there yesterday. I don;t quite know how it will work and the staff don't quite yet either. They are changing to Flannels (Birmingham is closing thouogh which I am really sad about). I love the customer service in Harvey Nicks and with the massive Flannels virtually opposite I don;t know what will happen. Will they retain their brands, have different brands than Flannels, who knows.

I really hope it retains it's character.

Bjorkdidit · 12/10/2026 10:36

The Flannels where it is is fairly new isn't it? I've never been in there.

There's also the newish John Lewis so Leeds seems well catered for with high end department stores with or without Harvey Nicks.

I just want Uniqlo to open.

ElizaSchuyler · 12/10/2026 10:41

Yes, Flannels took over the old Debenham's building about 2 years ago I think. It's massive.

Normally I love John Lewis but I'm not much for the Leeds one. Limited choice and you can never find a member of staff.

TheTecknician · 12/10/2026 11:41

I'm a Leeds native resident of 55 years. The area I live in now is honestly slightly preferable (and less expensive) to that where I was born and raised. I very rarely go to the city centre; the last time I was there I felt very uneasy, practically a stranger in my home town. I concluded my business there and couldn't wait to get out and head home. However, Leeds is still my home and I don't want to live anywhere else.

RampantIvy · 12/10/2026 12:28

I just want Uniqlo to open.

So do I @Bjorkdidit
Wasn't it meant to open this year?
I always pop into Uniqlo in Liverpool when I am visiting family.

Why do you feel uneasy in Leeds @TheTecknician ? I never get that feeling.

ElizaSchuyler · 12/10/2026 12:31

I was walking through the city centre at 10pm last night and did not feel unsafe (certainly no more so than in any other large city anyway)
