Taking trips to France (but not Paris)

I've been to Paris so a few times but never ventured elsewhere.

Where else do you recommend going?

What's Lyon, Nice, Marseille, Toulouse like? How different are they?

Castles in the Loire, Alps is beautiful, west coast by la Rochelle for beaches and is just wonderful, Normandy for ww2 stuff alongside Brittany for mont Saint Michael and the Jura region is good for sports.
