Royal Mail don't give a fuck about consent

Royal Mail do not want you to opt out of junk mail. Or, as they call it "unaddressed mail". So you have to go to all the lengths of printing out their form, filling it in and posting it back to them. You can't just opt out online.

In the year since I did this (and they confirmed they received said form), I have still received unaddressed mail (sometimes 10 items) in about 50% of my deliveries. Seems you ALSO have to tell each individual postman at least twice.

The absolute ATTITUDE you get when you complain as well. Yes I'm well aware the only thing keeping RM in business is junk mail and nasty letters from TV licensing. But I'm not here for RM's convenience and they shouldn't be treating my letterbox like a recycling box when I have explicitly opted out.

Just put it in the recycling and carry on with your life.
Seriously, how have you even got time to be so stressed about such a minor issue, I can only presume the rest of your life is carefree. Maybe try finding a hobby?

@BillieWiper Government stuff like electoral material is not included in the unaddressed mail category. So I should still get that.

Ok fair enough. Thank you. I do think the issue lies with the fact a lot of it isn't directly though RM? I do see it as an annoyance but it's just people trying to make a living. Not that I can imagine many people buy things via junk mail anymore.

How tedious.

I have no words for how concerning your attitude is. So tell me, who decides whether a particular matter is important enough for consent to matter?

I have many many words concerning your attitude, which in all seriousness, I find concerning that you live in such a high state of anxiety about unsolicited mail. I probably won't contribute anything else to your bonkers thread.

concertinacornflake · 07/10/2026 14:55

I take consent seriously. It doesn't apply to putting advertising leaflets through doors IMO unless there is something inappropriate on the leaflet.

Just put it in the recycling.

@LittleGreenDragons it says in my post that I filled in the form a year ago and they confirmed they have it. (In response to my various online complaints).

Yes I'm aware they have to deliver anything with my name and/or address on. So TV licensing letters and ADDRESSED junk mail.

I edited my post before you responded. I did however misread your bit about TV licensing though but maybe my response could help someone else.

What did RM say when you complained? Are they disputing it's them delivering it? If yes then I would add your ring doorbell footage and photos of the mail to your next complaint email and ask them to explain.

@ghostyslovesheets I think you overestimate their cognitive abilities!

Yeah junk mail might seem like a small thing to some people but to me it's the principle of the thing - I'm pretty hot on consent/respect for people and their property.

It's hardly disrespectful. It's poor systems in place if anything. It's hardly personal. Get over it and shove it straight in the recycling bin. I only get stuff about once a month or so, so it's hardly a big deal.

Uricon2 · 07/10/2026 16:41

I get unsolicited mail, delivered by our lovely postie. Seamless transition to the recycling and I truly wish I had so little to be bothered about that this would be a Big Thing in my life, unfortunately the new and poorly controlled cardiac condition and bed bound ill husband are more pressing.

Consent indeed.

@Lomonald Gonna take a wild guess that you're a man. Either consent matters or it does not. It should not be for you to approve whether it's re a sufficiently serious matter or not.

I'm not a man and I agree with her about postage consent, which is slightly different to sexual consent despite you apparently trying to equate them
