Does anyone understand delay repay stuff for trains.? My claim rejected

It’s just annoying me as I suspect EMR are using a loophole to get out of paying me.

i bought a return ticket to Manchester. Not direct through Emr but via TrainPal as was £20 cheaper as they did a split ticket thing. So I was going from A to D and had to change trains at C

my ticket was a return ticket from A to B and then another ticket from B to D with a change at C. 🤣

so the train at A is delayed. I get to C ten mins late and miss my connection so am over an hour late to D. Conductor tells everyone we will get delayed repay payment.

ticket 1 from A to B was £5. The B to D ticket was £45

i put in a claim and it’s been rejected as my ticket “is not valid for the claim being made”.

is it due to the split ticket issue. In which case shall I just put another claim in using my second ticket from B to D.

or is it because it was a weekend and the ticket when on my e-ticket said “anytime return”. Even though on trainpal it specified a particular time and I had seat reservations on the train from C to D which I missed.

i appreciate it’s not a vast sum I’m due but it spoilt the day and I’d like some money back.

It won't be anything to do with the anytime return or the weekend, I've claimed delay repay from Cross country for weekend anytime returns numerous times and always got the refund.

I think if you've now sent EMR both tickets they should have enough info to be able to process your claim. Did you just send the A to B ticket the first time you claimed?

No I sent both tickets.

I CBA to get my head around all the A to B to C stuff but in future, you can buy split tickets from Scotrail for the whole of GB, possibly more, without any fees so that might give you more rights than buying from a non rail operator.

I even took screenshots on the day from the app to show the delays. I missed the connection in Doncaster

I had a year long dispute with Scotrail over a delay repay claim.
Eventually I gave up as I was going round and round in circles and getting nowhere.

Then out of nowhere I got an email asking for my account number so they could send my payment. Two days later the full amount I'd paid for the tickets was paid in, not the 50% I'd been told I could get.

Very odd.

No I sent both tickets.

In that case no idea why they rejected your claim, but hopefully your appeal and note works. I've done some googling and you're entitled to delay repay for the whole journey A to D no matter how many tickets you have.

I’ve claimed multiple times on split save tickets. You should be able to do it directly through TrainPal, though you sometimes get more going direct.

That’s worth knowing. Thanks.

I am so confused. How many trains were you on? 3?
A-B
B-C
C-D

2 tickets - A-B return, single journey ticket B-D

2 trains - change of train at station C

Split ticket journeys can be confusing, you just have to show the valid tickets for the various station-to-station legs purchased for your journey

In this case, the maximum number of times they would need to show tickets is 3

Return journey ticket valid between Stations A-B and staying on the same train until station C requires them to show the single ticket covering B-D

After changing trains at Station C, they show the same single journey ticket.again to cover final leg of the journey into station D - Manchester

Yes. It was the same train. B is only 5 miles from A.

I was under the impression I could claim for the whole journey even on a split ticket.

I do wonder if it’s because even though on the website I selected the 7:30 train (which was late) and then the 9am train from C. When the tickets were emailed they just say anytime return rather than a specific time.

so how can I prove I was on that train and it was delayed. Maybe it’s just bad luck and at a weekend with any anytime return you’re stuffed. I don’t believe I asked for an anytime return

I'm sorry, I misunderstood. Good luck with your claim!

I’ve tweeted them and they’ve replied with a number I can ring and speak to someone so will try that tomorrow.

Honestly I’ve just spent this evening buying a 16-25yo railcard for dd which was also a stressful experience. I’m so done with train stuff currently!

I claim from EMR all the time, I don’t let them get away with anything. Last week I had a train late by 15 minutes and 10 seconds and still claimed. So I have experience with them - and you’re wondering why you’re not eligible when in reality it’s probably because they mess up all the time. I’d say about a quarter of my claims I’ve had to appeal because they miscalculated or some other nonsense.

Got through on the phone. Nothing wrong with the ticket.

Doesn't matter about split tickets, anytime return, the fact i bought it through a third party, etc.

Ticket was valid and claim has been approved. 😀
