Air fryer - worth it or hype?

I'm 49, we are a family of 3 (or 4 if eldest is home!). Are aur fryers worth the money, if you're a pretty accomplished home cook?

I cook pretty much daily for my family, often batch cooking, and baking weekly. We have a 2 oven range but I guess this would be cheaper to run....

In my head, though, air fryers are for heating up frozen foods!

I'm using my slow cooker more at the moment to save money, and was wondering, are air fryers also economical? Would we need one with 2 drawers? And how do you use yours?

Thanks for any tips.

Love mine..
Best cooked chicken, homemade chips and even muffins.
Maybe look up recipes and ideas it covers all sort so f foods. I make a roast vege dish
To me a slow cooker is something i never used...i haul mine out often..never use the main oven.
Make sure its qaulity brand..unsure of the new style with a glass bowl with a lid put on it manually..
I would highly recommend a airfryer. Cheaper to run small and easy then throw it in the cupboard...use paper liners is my suggestion

I used to have a ninja double stack but gave it away as I felt the drawers were a bit small but the whole thing took up a lot of space in my wee kitchen and it was noisy with loud fans & all the sodding beeping . I bought a single drawer instant brand instead & I use it a lot . I haven't baked in it & I don't make home made chips either as I prefer to do wedges, less faffy . I also use it for sausages, bacon, salmon fillets , home breaded fish , eggs, toasties, chops, chicken, roast potatoes. I do use it for frozen crap as well, fish fingers, tattie waffles etc . There's only two of us so it's ideal to not have to heat up the big oven up

I live alone and use mine everyday. I only use the oven if I want pizza. I love doing a mini cooked breakfast in mine and doing salmon and roast vegetables. I didn't want one to begin with and then a relative bought it as my Christmas present. I love it! I don't really bake cakes/bread/etc, so can't comment on that.

I use my oven about twice a month now. Air fryer is superb! I have a 2 drawer one and it cooks anything I want in it. Even a hard boiled egg. (170degrees for 7 minutes.)

I don't have a Ninja one or any of the really expensive ones but I bought a Tower one with shelving not drawers over two years ago and I use it pretty much daily.

I am only cooking for me though but I think they have brought out another model which is bigger. I was tempted to get that one but my kitchen isn't really big enough to have anything larger than the one I already have as I'd lose more worktop space.

I use mine all the time it’s a god send as far as I’m concerned so much easier than waiting for an oven to heat up

TheCabbageMerchant · 07/10/2026 09:43

I use ours most days. Wouldn’t be without it!

MrsM2025 · 07/10/2026 10:08

Mine sat on the worktop for a year then I started using it! Now I use it for everything-even toastBlush
mine is only a small one but I think I’ll have to get a bigger one!

Use it every eg for roast potatoes, chips, bacon, sausages, chicken fillets, small whole chicken, chops, salmon, roast vegetables- most things that will fit in it and are not slow cooked.

20 potatoes??? No it isn't.

No it's not 20 whole potatoes, it's about 20 smallish roast potatoes

Worth it. Use it daily (we have a small, cheap Asda one). Saves us a fortune on the electricity bill versus using the oven. Eg croissants in the air fryer take 5 minutes. In our over takes about 8 minutes to heat up plus the 5 minutes!

we use it more than our oven now and it’s so easy, cheap.

My DD who always needs quick food finds it much easier to use too versus the oven with its complicated settings and pre-warming process.
