Let me know your recommendations for good buys at Aldi please. I haven't shopped there for years but now have access to a fairly local store.

Why are people so surprised that Aldi or Lidl stock nice food you can eat?
Nobody posts asking "what can I buy at Tesco?", only ever Aldi and Lidl. They are just supermarkets, not exotic goods from far flung bazaars on the spice route.

Because, frankly, some of the stuff is crap. I wouldn’t buy fruit and veg from there because it doesn’t last at all, though I think that can vary by region/store because I know others who swear by it. I do my main shop at Sainsbury’s and for what we get Aldi isn’t any cheaper. That said, I like popping there and my husband likes their coco pops and he eats quite a few of them (as part of a wider eating plan), as he’s training for a marathon. I also buy a box of their chocolate pillow cereal as a treat now and then for my teen son. Similarly, as I follow Slimming World, I get their wholemeal buns and their sliced corned beef. And I’ve just tried to change to their washing liquid (aforementioned husband has awfully sensitive skin so will see how it goes).

I wouldn’t have known about these things without a similar thread like this.

I’ll potentially try other things but we’ve also had stuff we haven’t been keen on.

Rose Prosecco

Hotafternoon · 07/10/2026 19:59

Last couple of Christmases they have had pigs in blanket crisps. Bought loads of them and if they have them this year I'll buy them again.

They are very moreish.

hby9628 · 07/10/2026 20:20

Oh yes the Prosecco is lovely & all of the Christmas treats.

now I just want Prosecco & crisps 🤦‍♀️

I like their Hotel Collection pomegranate reed diffuser for the downstairs loo. People always comment on it (favourably! )

Copperoliverbear · 07/10/2026 23:27

Washing pods. Chocolate and sweets.

Copperoliverbear · 07/10/2026 23:28

Also reed diffusers

The cheese and yogurts are good
cold meats hit and miss
cupboard essentials very good

avoid salad, fruit and veg as it goes off very quickly

Interestingnamesuggestion · 07/10/2026 23:30

Everything apart from their tea and coffee (though that was years ago, it might be ok now) and at least some of their shampoo and conditioner dupes are not very good at all (Aussie and Elvive lookalikes).

Everything else I've bought there has been great.

I think how quickly the fruit and veg goes off is really dependent on individual stores (and any supermarket brand seems to have some stores that are bad for this). Both of my local Aldis are fine.

The Tropical Booty cream is (almost, so close!) a dupe of Brazilian Bum bum cream, and it’s £4.99 for a massive tub, I use it every day!
the yogurt coated cranberries-when you can get your hands on them- are delicious. Also mini Romeos (Bounties), stem ginger cookies, jelly beans.
in the coming weeks look out for Christmas stuff like the almond topped mince pies, florentines, different cheeses.

Nitgel · 07/10/2026 23:46

Whole nut chocolate

The Specially Selected frozen quarter pounder burgers that are just beef, salt and pepper are very good.

Dancingdahlia · 08/10/2026 02:55

We buy a few of their ‘specially selected’ range - piccolato tomatoes and big bags of crisps are as good as the equivalent in posher supermarkets and much cheaper.
Also:
Hairspray - Elnett dupe
St Etienne alcohol free lager
Paloma cocktail cans
Goats cheeses (all 3 of them - not fancy, but decent everyday cheese), feta, Manchego and parmesan, West Country cheddar
Moser Roth chocolate
White choc cookies
Various crackers
Plain nuts, although not the flaked almonds - always seem to be crushed.
Fruit and veg can be decent if the store has a fast turnover, but need to check it. Tenderstem broccoli sometimes has too much stalk and not enough top. Asparagus initially seems cheap, but not much in the packet.
Don’t like the bin liners or the washing powder (which made me itch).
