Do you have to potty train at night time?

My daughter will be 4 in December and still using pull-ups overnight. We were really lucky with potty training her because she just decided a week before she was 2 that she wouldn’t wear a nappy anymore and wanted to use a potty. So that was job done. But obviously that was nearly 2 years ago and she’s still wearing a pull up at night that’s soaking wet every morning. We’ve tried making her go for a wee before bed, taking the nappy off and seeing what happens but she wets the bed every single time. What next? I don’t really get enough sleep as it is so don’t want anything that disturbs nighttime and has us changing sheets in the middle of the night and getting her back to sleep 🫩

With both of mine, it was like a switch. Full pulls up every night... then bam, completely dry. One was 5, the other 4.

Tried having a convo @luckylavenderand she says her nappy is dry every morning and gets upset when you say no darling it’s actually got wee wee in it. She insists it doesn’t 😂 not really sure where to go from there!

She did really well @LilytheThinkwith absolutely no input from us so we got off very lightly! She has a lot of opinions and just decided she didn’t want a nappy on anymore which was fair enough.

Thanks for all the replies! Looks like we’ll just keep on with the pull ups and not worry about it. Annoyingly she won’t wear one so we have to wait till she’s asleep and put one on but if we don’t do it straight away she’s usually done a wee in the bed! So she is weeing pretty much all night.

It can be a mixture of things at that age. Bladder capacity is one reason, is she drinking enough during the day that she actually has the bladder capacity to hold overnight. The other is if they wake when they need to wee, that’s when alarms often work as they go off when they start to wee so the child wakes and then they learn to wake if they feel the need to wee. The other is the hormone.

Eric.org has lots of advice. I’d be looking on there and in half term would try without pull ups, pull ups will make her feel dry so aren’t training her to recognise when she needs to wee. Make sure you have a mattress protector on.

Every child is different. Out of five kids 1 trained by the time they was 3. 1 was around 2 nearly 3. One was 4 and one was a fair bit later nearly 5. Last kid im waiting for the signs. I waited for the dry nappies. Though the two year old was very ocd (still is) and decided that he was done with nappies for peeing. Took me ages to get him to poo in a toilet.

No, both kids were just naturally dry over night just before age 3. We left the nappy on until it had been a long stint of dryness, and then stopped using it.

Now and then my 3 year old wakes up in the middle of the night and asks me to take her to the loo.

I never took them to the loo overnight or anything, I think it's just luck.
