Absolutely fummin ;)

Greetings, pedants who clicked on the title :D Sorry about that - but I am actually extremely annoyed, 'cos DPD have just delivered my parcel to an address half a mile away which seems to be a holiday home and therefore inaccessible. I was expecting the delivery, so when I saw the van drive past our house, hesitate, then reverse into a neighbour's drive and return in our direction, I ran out of the front door and waved frantically at him. Being over 60, I am invisible, so it had no effect, and he went on to shove my delivery through someone else's letterbox. This is not a euphemism. I am peeved. Very.

Happily awaiting replies which criticise my grammar, spelling, relationship, sexual history and political stance :) I may as well get some joy from the day...

Very irritating. Have you contacted DPD?

I have, through every medium accessible to me! No response as yet, but it's Friday evening, and I can't imagine anyone is going to make this a priority before home time. I know I wouldn't - I'm tempted to cycle down there with a clothes hanger to try to extract it through the letterbox, but I have neither the energy nor the co-ordination to make that a feasible option. Instead, I'm going to go to bed, and we'll drive round there tomorrow to assess the situation :) I shall update!

Oh please do! No sign of the blinkin' package here, but dinner's almost ready, so am feeling a little happier
:)

Thank you for indulging my rant 😊

DC1 (who is old enough to know better) is back in the UK for a holiday. Despite repeated instructions not to pick the dog up under its shoulders, he continued to do so. Now dog is squealing every time anyone touches him, and I have had to book him into the vet. Absolutely fummin.

What did you post to be deleted???

I just asked if they’d delivered a card to say delivered to neighbour?

It's pending, not deleted - I was describing the parcel contents, which are… erm… chewy sweets made from gum? Seems to be a trigger word!

oo - quick edit! No, no card saying it had been delivered elsewhere, because they seem to think it was delivered to me, at the wrong Eircode, wrong house, wrong front door pic, wrong location details, and absolutely no notice taken of senior woman waving arms in the air as they drove past me.

I would be fummin' too! I'm a dog person (though without dogs at the moment). DC1 had better stump up for the vet bill, if any. Please give your dog a gentle hug from me.

I chuckled a little earlier today because my (also DPD) courier rung my doorbell halfway through me putting my toddler to sleep. I asked him to leave it outside the door through my ring doorbell and he did - fab. I then received N email that he left it at number (next door) with a chap called Paul. No such Paul lives there. They really do just make it up as they go along don’t they 😂

Thank you! And yes, the vet bill will be discussed next week 😡

Ive been fummin too, our package which needed signature, no attempt to come to our door, less than 25 steps, instead approached a neighbours guest in the neighbours garden, they wouldn't sign, so drove off with parcel!

AnchorWHAT · 03/10/2026 10:16

I am regularly fummin when delivery folk dump parcel on the doorstep and leg it and we only know its happened if we happen to look at emails… just ring the feckin bell, theres a massive big sign too saying if no answer ( to the feckin bell ) put parcel under the side gate which is locked so secure, unlike the front doorstep. Many a time despite being home we have left the house in the morning to find a soggy cardboard package on the step in full view of passers by when we were in and no one rang the feckin bell to alert us of said dumping of parcel. 😡😡😡

Update: The DPD driver had to deliver another two parcels to me today. He'd been told that the previous parcel had been delivered to the wrong place, but he wasn't yesterday's man, so he had no more idea than we did where the parcel was. Anyway, to cut a long story short - as he was driving away from our house today, he spotted the neighbour's front door - which matched the picture from yesterday's delivery!

Next door is an empty house, sometimes let as an Airbnb - no one in it at the moment. However, it's owned by our other neighbour, who's currently out at work, but we can pop round there later and ask him to be kind enough to retrieve my parcel :)

So, it looks like I have a happy ending (chortle!) in sight, without having to resort to coat hangers or other dodgy means of extraction. Many thanks for the empathy - I am no longer fummin'

Final update: managed to get hold of the neighbour this evening, who obligingly opened the front door next door - and there was my parcel :) All good!
