Counter terror police investigate possible Iran link to Fairford RAF bomb plot, thread 2

So it appears this incident was terror related after all.

Quite a few of us on the first thread were sneered at for not accepting the suggestion that it was just thieves stealing fuel. Lots on that thread who had NO DOUBT that if the incident was terror related, there was no way the police would have bailed them.

But what do you know, it looks like the authorities did cock up after all.

My own theory about that which I think I have given on hear before is the men originally arrested didn't actually know what it was they were getting involved in. Hence why one of them apparently rung the police himself

I could be very wrong but everything points to they were recruited by an Iranian operative but thought it was to stage some sort of protest outside or inside the base. However once they realised it was a full on territory attack they panicked and one of them rung the police on themselves.

That does sound quite plausible.

It certainly is a weird situation.

RAF Fairford Incident Update: 28 September 2026 16:00PM

In the early hours of Sunday morning, colleagues at Gloucestershire Police received a report of suspicious vehicles in the vicinity of RAF Fairford.

As a result of that information, armed officers responded, and arrested five men on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act and later, preparation of a terrorist act under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act.

Man bailed in RAF Fairford investigation | Counter Terrorism Policing

A man arrested on Tuesday 6 October, as part of the Counter Terrorism Policing investigation into activity at RAF Fairford on Sunday 27 September, has been released on police bail.
The 22-year-old man, a British National, was arrested in the Borough of Westminster on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts under Section 5 of the Terrorism Act 2006.
He has now been released from police custody under strict bail conditions

When the UK released those people on bail, the right wing US press was not impressed. Nor was Trump. And like it or not, we need a good relationship with them

They were arrested for offences under the explosives act...... and then further arrested later for terrorism offences.

So, the original arrest falls under normal PACE rules.

If the further arrested offences have no real specific lines of enquiry at the time whilst there are in the original custody clock, then they will have to bailed under the normal rules.

Hence why they were bailed within 24 hours

I'm following what the Counter Terrorist police say

They were arrested under terrorism laws - so why release them. I understand they were arrested whilst still in custody. Not after they were released.

So again, why release them when they can be held for a longer period.

This is very strange

My theory is the same as @Neverstopwondering’s. I reckon they all told the police everything they knew as soon as they were arrested and are now being protected while investigation continues. It’s the only thing that makes any sense.

It must be a case that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to hold any of them any longer under any terrorism offence.

It could be that for each individual, the link is just not there.
Yes, it does look dodgy with them being around the air base - and further enquiries link other people associated to them to terrorism offences - but its not enough to continue to hold the original 5.

Its a lot easier to continue to hold them in custody - so there must be a reason why police had to bail them within the 24 hours.

"ts a lot easier to continue to hold them in custody - so there must be a reason why police had to bail them within the 24 hours"

I think a lot of people are speculating about that reason.

And that's why their early release led to the fuel thieves speculation as it was thought to be ridiculous they would release people arrested under terrorism laws after just a day or so.

Turns out we were wrong

I assumed they released them so security services could tail them 24:7 and get more intelligence on their group/terrorist cell and see what they’re doing.
The original thread seemed very much of its time: the pro palestine; pro iran, terrorist sympathisers wanging on about islamophobia etc

'Nothing to see here folks' should be there moto. Whenever anything happens that is against the narrative they believe apparently we should all just look away and ignore it as nothing.

If I had just been arrested under the Terrorism Act and then released the next day, the last thing I would do is go to see my handlers or visit people

I would hope they'd seen a film or MI5 series where people get released and are tailed.

I'd be sat at home watching TV or playing video games knowing full well I was under surveillance

Even MI5 would know people know that.

Unless the people involved are really stupid
