Anyone a little older gone from unfit to pretty fit?

I've.joined the gym. I'm almost 60 and although I have a pretty active job, I am not fit in amy way. I have dodgy knees and hips so anything I do will start off gently, but I'm wondering if I'm wasting my time and have left it too late.

I'm not expecting to be doing a Hyrox (nor do I want to) and my focus will be mostly on strength training, but I would love to hear experiences from people who started their fitness journey a little later.

55 and just started running two years ago. Doing my first marathon soon. Funny thing is I tried the c25k years ago and completely failed it. Tried again years later and it stuck. Absolutely love running now. Definitely don’t feel uber fit but must be doing something right as my stamina is improving.
I did join the gym and went for about a year then found running and just didn’t have time for both. Going back to weights after the marathon because as much as I love the running I really need to increase my muscle mass for older me.

It's NEVER too late! I'm 49; in the last year I've lost 50lbs and I've run two half-marathons in the last three months.

You can do this!

  1. I do a 45 minute strength class twice a week (I wouldn't try so hard on my own) term time only. My muscles are stronger and I feel them after class. Walking long distance is less tiring and my pelvic tilt thst makes me look pregnant is slowly improving. Previously did nothing and I didn't realise how puny I was.

Yep.
51 and although I've always done spinning, I've NEVER been able to run, even a few steps.
With some practice, I can now run for an hour without stopping. And I'm asthmatic and anaemic. If I can do it anyone can!

How?

Please explain how - I would love to run but can't for some reason.

I'm 55 - I used to be fit but suffered a series of injuries from 48 and shoulder/back/hip/knee/wrist - seriously was getting very annoyed that my body was not working and continually failing me. I wasn't able to exercise for years. But, I am very aware that if I don't move and lift heavy - these failures will continue. I started a year ago but my stupid over enthusiasm landed me with double tennis elbow - it was so bad I couldn't walk unless I put my hands in my pockets. 8 months later I'm starting to recover and now I'm finally being sensible, I've learned to listen to my body and increasing my weights and challenges slowly. My knees have improved, my hip has too but I have to listen to the aches and I'm not afraid to reduce weights or take a rest. I'm determined to stick at this - movement is the key to a good retirement and that's a prize I'm willing to work for.
