Would you cancel a Rhodes holiday over the recent gastro outbreak?

Would love to know what others would do.

Booked for Rhodes next week.

There appears to be a significant issue with gastroenteritis - possible Noro, possibly something else.

There appears to have been sewerage dumping into the sea on a greater scale than normal.

The official notification says they are checking the drinking water source.

850 were admitted to hospital in August (last year was 210)

Am I crazy to think about cancelling?

I was super sick two weeks ago and hadn’t left my home town. It’s going around and Rhodes is no different from here. My local Asda was out of rehydration sachets totally empty shelf which tends to indicate there’s been a run on them (pun intended)

It's not the same - obviously everywhere in the world has outbreaks of illness, specific hotels have outbreaks this in Rhodes is being investigated by the Greek health agency.

The normal amount of hospitalisation for gastro issues in Rhodes in August is around 200, this year it is well over 800.

I'm in FB groups for other Greek islands, no where else has such an outbreak, it is in the media.

My partner went on a family holiday last week to Rhodes with his sister, mum and dad. His mum and dad fell ill with it on day 1 and 2, then him and his sister day 4,5,6. They spent 2 days stuck in the hotel room unwell and are very hardy people who would normally just "get on with it". They're still wiped out now 5 days later.

Since leaving, their hotel (Akti Imperial 5 star) has been put into a 48 hour lockdown where no one can leave rooms.

My partners sister was using the bathroom of their shared room so he had to run down to the reception toilets on one occasion, this is part of the reason it's spreading because couples are coming down with it at the same time with just the one toilet unfortunately so him and others were all unwell in the public toilet downstairs too.

They were very thorough with hand washing etc but it just seems to be spreading across the island like wildfire.

If I were you, knowing what they've been through, I'd cancel. Yes it's very inconvenient but he said he'd never return there simply because of how traumatising and horrific the whole thing was. Loved the island for the 1 day he got to explore, nothing against the island, it's just tainted it for him.

Whatever you end up deciding I hope you stay well and have a great time <3

We are going to Rhodes, just outside Rhodes Town too. I have been following the hotel face book page and there are lot of questions about sickness. We have no intention of cancelling
