Anyone else irritated by the Lidl advert with the demanding child?

Anyone else loathe the Lidl advert with the little girl demanding to know if her father has bought exactly what she wanted, while he smiles fondly at the spoilt brat as he anxiously assures her he's obeyed her orders? Or just me being grumpy?

I’ve watched it and I don’t quite get the strong reaction the majority seem to have. She must be a good actress, though, to evoke that much detest towards her 🤣

She’s revolting. I don’t understand this recent trend for celebrating detestable behaviour. The stair lift one with the stupid child making her disabled granddad repeatedly go downstairs to get her stuff once she’s in bed is almost as bad. She’s got working legs and should be a bit more bloody organised.

I hate that ad..oh grandad..oh fuck off you wee bastard.
The other one the git kid hiding from gran ..life insurance or direct burning

Yes, ads were so much better when they featured people being sexually harassed, people being slapped or women doing all the housework. Bring back the good old days!

Yes, the good old days of the Smash aliens, the Cresta bear, the Hofmeister bear, Beatty and ‘you’ve got an ology’ and so on. They were so memorable we can remember them 50 years later! They were funny. Now they are just dire.

You have your rose-tinted glasses on!
Yes there were some good ones but there were loads that were utter shit too, and some were downright offensive.

Which are the offensive ones you are remembering?

Sparklechoppy · 27/09/2026 01:07

Yep awful

Copperoliverbear · 27/09/2026 03:56

Yes precocious

It's just an advert. The premise is set up to showcase that you can get everything. It's not meant to be a portrayal of model parenting.

But there are so many cleverer and less obnoxious ways of achieving that goal. A quick search round co pilot uncovered several.

The one that raises my blood pressure is the one about water - with that gobby child leading the class around shouting. 🙄🙄🙄🙄. Aargh!😖

scalt · 27/09/2026 09:48

I haven’t seen it (avoiding watching television of my way of avoiding ads), but I do remember the Ocado ones from about 2000 with a bossy child, or chorus of them, saying “BE MORE DEMANDING!”.

scalt · 27/09/2026 09:50

Does anyone remember the Carte d’or adverts with a woman’s foot pushing a man backwards into a pond, with the slogan “show them the carte d’or”? Now imagine if the roles were reversed.

Lilacspring · 28/09/2026 21:28

Yes i loathe this advert,i always tut and eye roll when it comes on tv.

Leo800 · 28/09/2026 21:52

It annoys me too. Weak Dad pandering to his brat of a child.

Noodledoodledoo · 28/09/2026 22:23

My 10 and 12 year old even comment on what a brat she is, and they are far from perfect children!

Monkeytennis97 · 28/09/2026 22:28

The saving water one is awful. Can’t bear it. Tv goes off the second it comes on.

I don’t like it when children are used as pawns to moralise adults. I remember adverts about bus lanes doing this. “I missed my bedtime story and kiss goodnight because some half-wit had parked in the bus lane, and made my daddy late home from work.”

In fact, I loathe adverts in general; they make me even less likely to buy a product. And I can proudly say I’ve never seen any of the much-discussed Christmas adverts.

The only ad I like currently is Pepto bismal
