Back at work after my dad died and feeling overlooked

My dad died last week. I am now back at work, had a few WhatsApps from work colleagues. No card or flowers. My sister had lots of flowers, cards etc and I get nothing. Someone at work just got engaged and there is a card going around, I know it is petty but I don’t really want to sign it.

I’m very sorry for your loss - and I do mean this kindly - but I think you need to differentiate between colleagues and friends here. Colleagues will not have known your dad. You can expect generic sympathy for your loss and for people to step in and cover your absence without complaint or resentment. But I think anything more than that would be above and beyond, rather than the norm. It’s a different thing with friends who will have known him (or at least, known of him) for a long time.

Sorry for your loss
People are cagey around a death
Not knowing what to say or do.
An engagement is something people are happy to talk about or engage with.
Personally up until a point I don't need to know every intricate detail of an upcoming wedding😴

I lost my dad last year and it was the same for me, almost no acknowledgement from colleagues. So when the boss's dad died a few weeks later and there was a collection for a card and flowers, that was hurtful. It felt like my dad's death didn't matter. It wasn't that I wanted attention, I just didn't, and still don't, understand why her dad's death warranted a collection when mine didn't.

I didn't put in to the collection, or to any others since.

Sorry for your loss OP. But I wouldn't expect anything from work colleagues on the death of a parent. Unless you are very young (I mean like 17), or your colleagues were well acquainted with your Dad. I would probably hope for some recognition if my husband had died or (god forbid) a child. But really it's only close friends and people that actually knew your Dad that would even consider send cards or flowers.
