I want 3 days in bed with shivers & aches

The kind of shivers where even in the hottest bath you still have goosebumps from the shivers.

3 days in bed with a hot water bottle and sleeping

3 whole days off doing life

Anyone else resonate?

I know what the OP means.

It’s a bit off topic but have you all booked your flu shots for the autumn? I think you need to be 75 or immunocompromised to get the Covid one on the NHS but chemists will usually let you pay for the flu one.

Can't say as a chronically unwell person that I would. Would rather have my health and feel 100 percent.
Only people with mental problems want to be sick.

I have just had seven weeks off work with a broken wrist. After the initial pain it was very restful, as I couldn't do much at all! And I wasn't feeling ill, but I got to read a lot and watch heaps of Netflix, while my husband and son had to do all the cooking and cleaning. I wouldn't really recommend it though, but it was relaxing.

Wish44 · 21/09/2026 07:54

I used to be and AMHP -I remember once when the kids were small being jealous of someone I was detaining under the Mental Health Act as they were going to get a rest.! Yes I totally understand op . Try and take a day just to be in bed. It will do you the world of good .

Drspockspaceship · 21/09/2026 08:23

I just need some time off of life and doing it all. My DH is useless in terms of seeing what needs doing - but I love him regardless. He has aspergers, my DC has autism with PDA my other DC are neuro typical but have suffered with SEN DC and their meltdowns and behaviours over the years. I'm caring for elderly parents, we have a severe issue hanging over the family. My home to do list is huge and I work full time. DH can barely look after himself let alone take any burden off me and has regular mental meltdowns due to stress at work.

Sorry to hear for all those who have been genuinely suffering with their health. I've had cancer, fortunely i'm now clear.

3 days in bed , with a hot water bottle, my dressing gown, Netflix, endless mugs of tea and my phone off would be much welcomed right now. Rather oddly I don't mind having shivers and aches !

I used to be an RMN i doubt they would get much in an in patient ward unless sedated.

im sure that’s true- im not saying my thinking process was logical - far from it in fact- im just sympathising with the op and saying that the brain does funny things when we are very tired and need a rest

LetMeGoogleThat · 21/09/2026 10:49

Just spent 5 days in hospital hooked up to an IV post brain surgery, be careful what you wish for! Annual leave is for nice lazy days in bed, not illness.

nopenotplaying · 21/09/2026 10:52

I read this and instantly knew it was because you were burned out. Then I read your second post and I’m not surprised. Sorry you’ve had a hard time from some on here 😩 is there any way you can get away for a couple of days?

Lol. Annual leave is for the school holiday juggle when you have kids. Who has enough leave to just have a lazy day off for no reason?!

Anyone who hasn’t devoted every waking moment to their family and has a life outside of that? Some people manage work, family and still get time to themselves.

Being off sick means they have to fend for themselves anyway, surely?

BelleEpoque27 · 21/09/2026 12:03

I know what you mean, OP. I sometimes feel like that, but take it as a sign that I really, really need a rest - no-one actually wants to be ill, because you feel rubbish. And as soon as you feel even moderately better, you're up and running again but still not 100%.

Can you take some annual leave and just stay in bed? I know very well how hard it is juggling school holidays, but DP and I always allow ourselves a couple of days off to do what we want each year. Or can you at least take a day when the kids are in school and DH at work, and just do nothing for a few hours?

I don't dedicate every waking moment to my kids, after a burnout a few years ago, I know the importance of time to myself. I have regular weekly hobbies and habits for myself and the occasional Saturday and girls night/ weekend.

But the reality is still that between me and my husband we get 10 weeks holiday to cover 13 weeks school holiday. Plus any days off due to child illness. Given the cost of holiday clubs and the fact they don't cover a full work day) and the desire to have some holiday as a family together, unfortunately that means no lazy annual leave days off. I don't think we're unusual in this.

The point that I was making in the post which you quoted, was that actually being unwell is not the break OP needs and maybe not something wish for.
I was a single parent, with zero support and a child with high needs, but I still wouldn't prefer to feel how I do right now, over the stress of being in the trenches. You can lol away, but I'll stick with: careful what you wish for.

Mt563 · 21/09/2026 13:09

And my point was taking time off is not that simple.

I've been in OPs position or similar. I felt so trapped and exhausted. But there wasn't really a way out without causing more issues. So for too long I just kept on because a break would have just made things worse (everything that was there before the break would still be there with more besides and probably problems to correct).

Fortunately for me my main issue was work and I got a new job. I've made it a priority to carve out time for myself weekly so I don't get to breaking point.

I hope op has people who can help her get the rest and reset she needs.

bababamama · 21/09/2026 14:18

I’ve had 2 horrible weeks of illness, antibiotics, mainlining ibroprofen, why would you want illness?

tuntree · 21/09/2026 14:19

I would bloody love a non life threatening hospital stay. Really I would.

VividDeer · 21/09/2026 14:21

Every time I get shivers and aches its insanely inconvenient e.g week before my cancer surgery, missing a big work event

smallglassbottle · 21/09/2026 17:09

I'm currently laid up with a sprained ankle and foot and I'm getting bored now. I have watched movies and instagram, but the novelty is wearing off. The rest is pleasant though.
