Washing Machine that doesn’t make clothes smell recs!

Washing machine is broken and needs replacing and we need to buy a new one. We’ve always had a problem with this one - Bosch making clothes musty. Previous Bosch was fine. We’ve tried everything. Washing hotter, hot cleaning cycles, citric acid, vinegar, different cleaning detergent etc

If you have a machine that gives you nice fresh clothes please recommend. Even if it’s on the pricey side. In an ideal world it would be around £500 though which a replacement for ours would be.

Use powder - never liquid. Do a boil wash once a week.

It's definitely the liquid detergent. I use liquid for clothes and powder for everything else. Occasional high temp wash. Use one for your daughter that she's ok with and a different one for everything else. That said it's a misnomer that people with skin problems can't use bio - in some countries they don't have non bio at all. It's about finding one that works.

I would hazard a guess that it'd due to always using non bio. You need enzymes to clean.

I'm in another country and we don't even get non bio so all washing powder is automatically biological. Myself and my dd also have excema and I don't use anything different to wash with. If I ever see soap build up, I will always do an extra rinse.

The fact your other machine also smelt is the clue that it's your method over the machine at fault.

For those recommending powder over liquids, I would be interested in recommendations of a bio powder (ie with enzymes) for colours with no added softener fragrance - thanks!
I use liquid mainly as I don’t like softener fragrance but I can’t find a powder for colours without this added.

Have you got a kink in your drainage pipe? Maybe it’s not able to clear the last bit of water.

We use an Eco ball instead of powder. Occasional 90° wash, it's a Bosch, not smelly unless we need to do the cleansing wash.
We occasionally use Ecover pods or powder but generally the wash ball gets it all clean.

Ive got a samsung ecobubble. Never had any issues with smells.

Like some others I only use powder (fairy non bio), regularly clean the filter, leave the door & drawer open when its not being used (its in the utility so easy to do) & run a cleaning programme whenever it tells me to. And I never wash anything at less than 40 (whites are washed at 60).

Id definitely recommend it.

I’ve had two Bosch ones, First one lasted 20 years - current one fine.

@CuteOrangeElephant that is interesting what you say about Europe and bio/non-bio. I have read that it can usually be the perfume part of the liquid that causes eczema.

Will get on the Reddit laundry sub and see what I can find that has enzymes and is ok for sensitive skin.

@Nincompoo I do think there is something in there that’s not draining properly. We’ve checked the pipe that goes out the back but it was perfectly clean. We’ve also taken it apart to check for build-up below the drum and that doesn’t seem to be it.

i guess we could get it serviced but I expect the fee would be at least £100 and might as well put that towards a new machine.

Quick update. Have been washing mainly at 40 and 60 and putting vinegar in the softener dispenser and clothes are smelling much better. Have been using Persil non-bio on whites with Aqua Plus setting and DD skin seems ok so far.
I expect with the cold/damp weather it’ll get worse but I’ve found that Ocado do a good booster detergent that has enzymes for sensitive skin with no added perfume so will get some of that. Haven’t done a cleaning cycle yet. Better do that!

Can you link to the booster detergent, OP? That sounds like something that would be useful for us.

I get my washing out as soon as it have finished and it never smells. Also leave door open always.
