Learn something new every day. Underground bees!

We've recently moved and the garden needs a lot of work. Dh has just been digging and a bee popped up. Then another.
I googled and read bees live underground. Non of us knew this.
Is it common knowledge? Something that we missed and should know?

Dh is leaving that area alone now and is sat out watching for bees. Hopefully he hasn't ruined too many of their tunnels?

We have a bee hole in the grass, which has been in use for a few years now. I didn’t know that bees could live underground until we found it.

Loads of bees keep flying into a little crevice between a rock and my shrubbery tbf.

Some solitary bees live in a hole in the ground, yes. We've had them in the garden before, and they leave a neat little heap of sandy soil beside the hole. There are also mason bees, which like the base and crevices of walls, and we have a nest of bumble bees under our shed, which has been there for years.

As far as I know, there are loads of different bee species.

Amazing. I love learning new stuff. I googled and they may not be around long. Still I have some new garden friends for a while 😊🐝🐝🐝

Every autumn our garden has underground bees for a while.

We had some recently, for the first time ever! They used to do patrols of the area in twos! Im generally terrified of bees/wasps etc but They were very docile and only got annoyed once when DH went to mow the grass near their area. We left it after that and they seem to have moved on now, was about 10-12 weeks with them.
