Huge sigh of relief now she’s gone

My partners daughter went home yesterday and after two full weeks of her being in the house, I can finally relax. Hats off to all step parents out there!

Lovely, just lovely

aliasfrog · 18/08/2026 09:26

Yabu. Poor kid

LagoLady · 18/08/2026 09:26

I hope she doesn’t know that you feel that way.

The poor child is 8

Mind the OP’s own child sounds very unhappy being at home with the Op and her boyfriend. So both kids unhappy.

Maddy70 · 18/08/2026 09:28

Be kind posters. I've felt that about my own children from time to time as I'm sure we all have , but op. I hope this is tongue in cheek which I suspect it is. Children are exhausting.

Pancakeflipper · 18/08/2026 09:29

Hope you had fun with her when she stayed with you?

You don't title a thread "huge sigh of relief now she's gone" if it's tongue in cheek

chocoluv · 18/08/2026 10:02

This is why I’d never move in with a man who had kids.

I guess you must enjoy it when she’s there too else you wouldn’t live with him.

Ireallycantthinkofagoodone · 18/08/2026 10:06

If you choose to be in a relationship with someone who is already a parent, you know what is expected.
What an awful thing to complain about. Poor child having to put up with your views.

Why do some mothers do this? Chase men over their own kids?

Horrible way of talking about your partner’s child too OP

Send her a card in the post, expressing how generous of her to visit and how much you and DH loved having her.

Well there'd be no need to 'suspect' if people wrote a proper opening post, with more words.

These silly minimum post and run threads are become far too common place and pointless I think.

Look at her posting history, that will tell you all you need to know.

Step parenting always sounds like very hard work to me. From reading threads here it brings nothing but grief (with very rare exceptions) for both sides.

(But I suppose we don't have many threads saying how wonderful it is in order to compare I suppose!)

I would never do it. I don't have kids myself and certainly do not want to ever be in the middle of an ex, bio parent, stepchild. Too much to take on and it rarely works out well for anyone. As for blended families and mutual "new" kids, well add in stepkids on both sides and there may be envy and other things surfacing eventually.

Good luck to those who do it. I couldn't and make no apology for that.

EveryoneUsingOutro · 18/08/2026 11:01

Does your DH/DP know you feel this way about his daughter?
Do you make it obvious to the child?

Can't you have a relationship without living together.
