Hi,
I haven't been aboard in years and I am travelling later today.
I take regular medication, high blood pressure and diabetes.
I need to take the medication with me However, I don't have a doctors note nor do i have the repeat prescription. I have the medication in its orginal packaging with my name on it.
i was going to take it with my in the hand luggage.
would this be enough or am I stuffed?
Slightly panicked now.

I think you’ll be OK. I have just arrived in a country where I had to declare medication - they demanded to see the box, and as it had my name on it, and they had proof of who I was with my passport, there was no problem.

I take daily thyroid medication, hrt and sometimes an antihistamine. I always travel with them in a small plastic bag in my hand luggage and have never ever been asked about it.

I’m disabled and my meds travel in my hand luggage with me.

never been checked.
Europe etc usually fine
some countries do check so if going somewhere more exotic maybe post the destination and ask.

You’ll be fine OP. Where are you travelling to? I take a lot of medicines with me whenever I travel (never, never put meds in checked luggage), and it’s never been checked. My latest addition is a powder one which I thought for sure might be swabbed sometimes - no issues whatsoever.

Do you have the NHS app? can you screenshot and print the meds page?

She doesn't need to!

I have never had a problem with medicine, including now I live abroad and "import" 6 months supplies from the UK as one of my drugs is no longer available where I live. I usually try to take the (flattened down) box with me in my hand luggage then I have a copy of the presciption on my phone, but I have never been asked for it and I have been to A LOT of random countries. My "imported" medication does not have my name on the box and neither did it when I could buy it in the country where I am living.
I might have to declare meds on my next trip as you are only allowed to take in 14 days of medication, but that is fine as we are not going for that long.

I always bring mine in hand luggage, in the boxes with the prescription label. I’ve never been asked about them though.

where are your travelling to?

MalcomVexx · 18/08/2026 06:02

Depending on where you’re doing, you likely only need original packaging with name on it. I just traveled to America and only took my pill. My friend took all HRT. The website said that was all we needed and no body checked. The TSA agent was too busy telling me how much he loves guns.

I take regular meds and have never been checked at the airport for taking them with me
Just make sure all meds are in your hand luggage

unsync · 18/08/2026 06:09

I have had to show my passport matches the name on the meds before. I think the only time you need to be careful is if you are going to a country where certain types of drugs are prohibited. This usually means opiods where even codeine would be a problem.

I take medication decanted into plastic pots plus my inhaler in hand luggage. No boxes or prescriptions with me. It's never been an issue.
