What present for a 6 yo girl bday party?

Any suggestions for a gift for a 6 yo girl bday party? It is a year 1 party and they are doing a smaller celebration with only 8-10 kids and an activity. I have only been to whole class parties before and I used to get a lego set for £10 as my go to gift but a friend of mine recently said she usually spends around £15 and possibile more if it’s a smaller party.

We have a few of these coming up so lots of suggestions are welcome!

We live in west London, if that is useful.

£10 in a card so she can buy something and a bag of fancy sweets

My almost 6yo DD would love these kind of things:
Notebooks, pens, pencils
Art & craft materials
Jewellery making kit
Kid's nail varnish
Hair bands or clips
Slime

I usually go to The Range and get an arts and craft tyoe present, like a slime making kit, and an activity book, like colouring, puzzles or stickers.

Sweets or fruit snacks
Arts and crafts supplies or DIY kits (a friendship bracelet making kit or the likes)
Glowing stickers
Glitter gel pen set
Something related to their favorite character(s), could be stickers, accessories, stationery, a picture calendar with them, a figurine, etc
Washable hairsprays, but I'd ask the parents first if they'd be okay with that (could be allergies or something)

DD turned 6 a few weeks ago, her most used & enjoyed party presents are loom band/bracelet making kits, colouring pens, box of craft stuff, and a pair of PJ’s given along with a bath bomb.

Hama bead set
Gui Gui kit
A game like Guess Who, Twister, Mouse Trap etc…
Air dry clay kit

I tend to do a little craft for girls of that age, the Janod glitter sets are my go to for class parties. They’re beautiful and most 6 year old girls love them, they feel a bit more special than a typical craft.

@GoldenishFish Sweets or fruit snacks

Personally I would hate this.lll as a parent of this age group.

I am seeing this suggestion a lot on mumsnet but never saw it/heard of it in real life!

A £10 book token, and a 3D bookmark. Make sure card is big enough to fit the bookmark….!

That’s because it isn’t. only on MN are 6 tear olds responsible to not lose money, and even then not blow it on crap and actually choose something worthwhile.

What's wrong with sticking to Lego?
There's some great sets for £10 or under.

What I was trying to understand is whether for a smaller party I’d need to up my budget!

No you don't need to.
Just buy/spend what you normally would.
Why would a smaller party mean a bigger present?

MimiSunshine · 18/08/2026 13:14

I’m so confused as to why your friend thinks you need to up the budget if it’s for a smaller party?! It’s not as if the smaller number of kids need to make up the gift value to a whole class party.

id say a maximum of £10 is absolutely fine. Argos are great for gifts in a 2 for £15 offer so pick up a few if planning ahead

My dd always gave/got money and a small token gift. The idea being she put it together for one big gift. Always worked out and still happens now that they’re older.
