What is best and what can I expect to get done in that time?

We have 2 receptions, 2 hallways, office, dining room, kitchen 3 beds and 2 bath.
The second hallway is between the utility area and is a bit of a mud room.

2 bathrooms - full clean
Kitchen clean, windows, Floor
Utility/ Hall mop, floor,

Everywhere else hoover and if possible dust?
is this realistic ?

Are you asking: what can I expect my cleaner to clean within this timeframe?

And the timeframe is 2 hours week one and 4 hours week 2? Or are you saying they’ll do either 2 hours weekly or 4 hours every other week?

Also, they’ll tend to tell you what they offer & what they can do within time frames.

Thats a large house, I’d expect the kitchen/bathrooms/the used bedrooms to get done within 2 hours, but not much more.

If it was me I’d ask for 3 hours weekly, every week I’d want the kitchen/bathroom/the used bedrooms/one reception room/the hallway with the most footfall doing and then alternating the office/small hallway/dining room & other reception when they have time.

No, you’re not going to get a full hoovered house, full bathroom clean, kitchen clean, windows and mopped floor in 2 hours.

I know that’s what I am asking

Yes well deciphered.

3 hours each week is a good compromise. Thank you thoughtful reply and very helpful

I think I would just love some one to clean the bathrooms, kitchen and mud room once a week would be heaven!

I’ve got a house with 3 bedroom + 1 office, 1 bathroom, two reception rooms and downstairs loo. My cleaner came at 2 today and left at 6.30 so 4.5 hours.

She is VERY thorough and in that time focused on kitchen and bathroom (cleaning oven, microwave etc), she lightly dusted downstairs and mopped/hoovered all floors. She didn’t get to dust upstairs as didn’t have time (we’d agreed this so not a problem).

Or house was also extremely tidy so she didn’t haven’t to do anything other than clean.

Theres no way anyone would be able to do a good job with that sized house in 2 hours

Does she do that each week or every fortnight?

Mine very tidy too. No clutters.

It’s every fortnight but it’s not really how dirty it is that takes the time as we clean in between, it’s simply the amount of surfaces, moving things to get round them, things that need cleaning that take the time.

We did start weekly with less time but found there was only time to sort of gloss over things the way I do anyway and I wanted someone to really get behind the toaster, down the plugs etc and do it properly, skirts etc.

BTW I use Wecasa and found my cleaner there who is great, I like the the online booking aspect of it

BalakayAARon · 17/08/2026 20:03

3 hours a week is much better than alternating 2/4. Your cleaner can schedule their time better and keep on top of the tasks.

Meand2Ls · 17/08/2026 20:08

I have a 5 bed, 4 bathroom, 2reception rooms and in 2 hours I get my bathrooms and kitchen cleaned. Thats all

nutellacrumpets · 17/08/2026 20:08

Thanks for all the helpful input

I think 4 per fortnight would be great.

Reading with interest. I'm thinking also of once a fortnight. I am reluctant to get a weekly cleaner because I don't want my kids to get that lazy, they are bad enough already and this way they would still have some jobs.

Confusedmommadrama · 19/08/2026 04:02

We have a small terrace, 2 bedrooms/1 bathroom. Downstairs is one small open plan room. We have bathroom and kitchen cleaned, hoovered throughout, windows/mirrors wiped down, all surfaces cleaned and floor downstairs mopped. She will also change the bedding if I left it out, but I’ve never done this yet. Our cleaner does this in 2 hours per fortnight.
we are naturally very tidy and also minimalists which helps, and I do the same clean on the alternative week so it never gets that grubby. We also don’t have pets which helps a bit as well, but do have a small child so lots of little handprints on the mirrors.
