Can I realistically get all my son's university essentials at IKEA?

Son is off to uni - am I being overly optimistic or is there anything I CANT get at IKEA? I’m planning a single trip, with a list, and hoping to get everything in one go. Is this realistic??

Both of my DC Unis had massive sales of second hand kitchen stuff that had been left behind in halls kitchens. If 6 students sharing a kitchen all bring a fish slice then they're going to have 5 too many fish slices.

That’s really good to know thanks.

My first purchase arrived today - a mattress topper.

This time last year, we did get everything from Ikea in one fell swoop.

Why not Vinted or British Heart Foundation furniture stores or similar? He’s a skint student, not a professional professional homeowner!

Who has the time to go round masses of charity shops, looking for old crockery and supplies?

We have IKEA on the same business park as Dunelm and I reckon you can definitely get it all between the 2. I found Dunelm was a bit cheaper for some of the crockery/cutlery type stuff. IKEA do a student sign up £10 off offer from now.

Big Tesco/Sainsbury’s etc should have everything.

Or if Ikea, you can get ‘click & collect’ to our local big Tesco car park

What are you buying? My DD only needed a couple sets of sheets first year as catered, and last year added an electric blanket, duvet and pillows and …. a couple plants in her shared private house. There was cooking, cutlery and dinnerware in the house and someone did bring an air fryer. This year she’s in a different house and no idea what’s in it but at most she’ll bring a pan, pot and two of dinnerware/cutlery, all of which she’ll take from my kitchen. Possibly a lamp and waste basket.

I’m buying everything - for kitchen and bedroom / bathroom 🤷🏻‍♀️. Dunelm and ikea seem the way to go for me.

Dunelm do the small double fitted sheets and mattress protectors as a lot of halls seem to have that size of bed.

Just a warning re the Malm chest of drawers from IKEA.
It is rubbish. Stuff keeps falling down the back of them. And the drawers come off the rollers. You can't fit much in because of this. I had to get rid. Got some at Dunelm which are far better. Some of their sale stuff is just as reasonable.

Ds was in halls last year. A boat and a drive away.
We had a lovely morning in ikea! Got lots of bits and pieces there - rug for floor, toothbrush holder, scissors and all that sort of stuff. Mattress cover, quilt, bedding, towels etc came from Amazon and Asda and we vacuum bagged it. The blue Ikea bags were used all year for coming back and forward. They are so useful.
He was catered though.

This year he’s in a house with friends. We’re taking the same stuff (though new bedding as now double) and they will do a shop and sort kitchen stuff out between them when they get there. No point in having five of everything.
I was going to buy him an air fryer but if they don’t get one themselves I’ll send one to him.

This might have already been mentioned, but from today both Aldi and Lidl have 'student' themed things. I dont know how they compare price wise to Ikea, but might be worth a look too.
