First ever solo trip!

I'm taking my first ever solo trip to France in September. I'm going by train because I don't love flying so would rather eliminate the stress of it when I'm on my own. I also really enjoy travelling by train so it's not much of an inconvenience to me.

I'm doing this for a couple of reasons. Firstly, we have old dogs and it's becoming increasingly difficult to find adequate care for them. Secondly, I just need a bit of a solo break I think, I've been in a fog of infertility and pregnancy loss depression etc... for too long now and we should hopefully start IVF quite soon if that's what I end up needing.

I'll add that my marriage is absolutely fine, we are both on board with this etc... it's just something I've never done before and really want to give it a go.

Does anyone have any tips, advice, recommendations etc... or just words of encouragement?

I'm going to Marseille. I know it has it's troubles but I've researched that.

Be careful, travelling on your on can be addictive. Doing what you like, when you like is very liberating. Enjoy everything, even if you run into a bit of trouble, it makes for great memories (like forgetting to pack knickers). I hope you have an amazing time and come back in a better frame of mind.

You can also make detailed plans for a day & then wake up & decide to do something completely different without having to take anyone else into account.

Agreed. I'm spending a week in Germany travelling by train in October. Can't wait.

Cassis is very pretty. It feels like a couples place, so a day trip only is probably a good shout. Or you could visit the calanques easily.

Try and get an afternoon in Cassis

That sounds lovely. I go off on holiday on my own every year. Leave Dh and dc and the dog at home. Been lots of places in Europe, to Australia, to the US several times.

No tips really other than to have a lovely time. I tend to plan in some things I want to do to give the days a bit of structure but with the rest of the time just to wander or read a book or go do something spontaneous. I have one meal out a day and I plan my restaurants very carefully as I love food. The other meal I relax on my balcony and have a little picnic and read. It’s wonderful.
