Did school ask for travel details when taking child abroad?

If you took your child out of school to go abroad did the school insist on details ? Did you have to show flights etc? Or do you just state the dates to them and then pay the fine ?

We ask for flight details/proof of tickets.

If the return is late back and you keep a child off the next day I assume that makes no difference as you’re paying the same fine regardless ?

Does it affect whether they get fined or do they get fined anyway?

I think if you’re going to be fined regardless, why give them more data. Just another piece of data to be leaked by accident by a system failure. Because of this ever present risk, less is always better.

I’ve done it several times and never had to show proof of anything, but all trips were either unauthorised absences but short enough to not be fined, or we were authorised due to special circumstances.

Yes I sort of feel like it’s over 10 sessions it’s automatically a fine so I’m just informing them not going to fill out the request form

Are the fines generally immediate ? So it’s best to let them know as late as possible? Rather than in advance and have to pay the fine before going ?

Your likely to be fined anyway for taking them out, so doesn't make any difference if you keep them off an extra day. Some may have for safeguarding reasons, ie if a child doesn't return, they at least know where they went. Obviously there can be concerns about FGM in some cases and why a child is going abroad, but they can't just come outright and ask a family they're intentions.

You can’t get fined for something you haven’t done!

I think that's a fair point.. airline's are restricted on what info they can hold on passengers and for how long. Are there any simular rules for schools, or does safeguarding override everything?

In any event if I was in the OPs shoes I'd be very careful to make sure any proof of future travel offered up to the school doesn't contain or display info such as booking references.
