Can anyone recommend a daily fitness/workout app that is NOT AI?

I’m 40 this year, I’m unfit and I want to do some exercise every day at home to help with strength and weight loss.

However there is a HUGE range of apps out there, they all want payment and lots of them turn out to be AI.

I’m looking for something which ideally:

  • has guided workouts/calisthenics/stretching from a real human
  • can track progress
  • is beginner friendly

Any recommendations gratefully received, thank you!

Laura dorgan- it’s not free but great choice of programmes

Having made my way through so may workout apps the only one I’ve stuck with has been Ladder. It’s by no way the cheapest but the quality is really good and loads of options in terms of which ‘team’ you join depending on what you want to focus on. The workouts are structured and the talk through/ videos and programming etc are really well done but there’s enough flex options too. I don’t tend to engage with the team chat type function or the nutrition side but they’re apparently really good too.

Les Mills- tonnes of options of workouts, you need weights for body pump but other than that i think most are just body weight stuff. (And you don’t need to buy their expensive weights, any bar bell will do!)

Thank you! Just to clarify I don’t mind paying, it’s just I can’t pay for all of them in turn only to find they’re AI and/or rubbish(!)

Thanks for the recommendations so far! Has anyone tried Muscle Booster?

I haven't used it for a while so it may have changed but fiton used used to always be completely free and there were so many workouts on there. It doesn't have the ability to track progress tho.

I really rate Sweat, wide range of instructors and types of exercise.

If you are interested in total body workouts (beginner friendly) using hand weights then Caroline Girvan Iron Series is free and excellent.

I am a bit older than you and I use the Fabulous50s videos.

They are very good for weight training and also have videos that specifically address arms, belly fat, legs and also full workouts.

They are fun and manageable for all levels of fitness.

What equipment do you have at home? Caroline Girvan as someone said above is great. She’s on YouTube or has an app.

believe my Kim French - there’s a Facebook group also, might be worth joining before you make a decision.

Evolve you has some good home programmes

move with us.

if you are on Facebook there are lots of groups for the above or something like gym girl locker room, full of women who work out at home and in the gym ☺️

Hailey happens fitness who has done collaborations with Stacy Sims, Dr Vonda Wright and I think Brick House Bones now.

You can email actual people via email or via the app to ask questions and join a supportive Facebook group where admins and Hailey will answer questions. I think they trialled Ai questions as part of the app but gave up. So now have a team who answer emails. There’s live zooms to join also. And all zooms with experts are stored on the app for you to watch back. When they interview an expert you can send a question in which may get chosen. The app has loads on nutrition.

I bought the 3 month power happens beginner 1 and it helped me hugely. I was more able with the cardio so just did what I could do on those days but it’s good for a beginner. I moved on to 2 and also trialled an express intermediate which I love and was given free. But am going to probably re do beginner 1 as it was so good as an all round muscle builder but with heavier weights.

It was 3 months but it took me 5 as I re-did blocks. You get x 3 lifting sessions and x2 cardio per week; a block lasts 3 weeks. It can run on a calendar or you can pause it and do it over what ever days you like.

They give lots of support as it’s actually quite complicated there’s so much there. And there’s lots of peer support in the fb groups. Which you don’t have to join but I found helpful.

dinodora · 17/08/2026 08:41

I think you can down load it an try a week for free to see how the exercises and calendar works.

I like MadFit. She also has tons of videos on YouTube, you can try her workouts on there before deciding to sign up (pay) for the app. I actually don’t even have her subscription anymore, I just do her YouTube videos now.

I like the Fabulous50's workouts too. She is easy to follow and has a good variety of workouts at varying lengths and the music isn't had either.I
She has a fabulous looking house if that's where she films

I have used Fiit before. It is very trackable if you have one of their compatible devices and there are plenty of beginner friendly workouts and plans with real trainers. No AI!

I don't think there is any calisthenics though although that might have changed.
