Would you cook a spatchcock chicken if the packaging was damaged?

Just come home from Asda with one of those spatchcock chickens with herbs (the ones you cook in the time they’re sold in).

Got home to discover part of the cellophane has come off the tin. I didn’t notice in the shop, so it could have happened on the way home…or it could have been like that when I got it off the shelf.

cook it? Or bin it?

Cook it, assuming it smells ok, it wouldn't cross my mind not to. Any bacteria will be killed by cooking, and it's no different from buying it from a butcher where they would have it on display unpacked until you bought it, surely?

I would cook it. I've cooked supermarket chicken before where the cellophane has been ripped, and not sure if it was like that when I bought it.

If it’s bad, you’d know. I wouldn’t think twice, though I would probably cook it today/soon rather than leaving it for a few days.

Covered or uncovered, harmful bacteria will be present, but cooking it kills them.
It'll be absolutely fine.

So much wastage happens when people don't understand basic food safety.

thanks! I wouldn’t have known that cooking would make it safe so that’s really helpful. It smells fine (well, lemony and garlicky)
