Bald patch on 7yo. Hair pulled out or alopecia?

I can’t remember exactly when - probably a couple of months ago, someone put glue in my son’s hair and I cut a patch out because it matted. I can’t remember exactly where it was on his head, somewhere at the back though so could be at this point.
Fast forward to a month ago when the hairdresser mentioned it at his haircut.
Now a month later, it’s still there and I can’t see much regrowth.

Could this be a small section of alopecia? If so, do we watch and wait or see the GP?

Have you seen him pulling it? Does he pull any other hair, or have any other compulsions?

He doesn’t pull it himself but I wonder whether it could have been pulled out by the glue incident. I had to cut a matt of hair out so imagine there was pulling of the area. I can’t remember the exact area though and that was a couple of months ago.

I'd be tempted to just wait and see, though I can understand the anxiety that seeks faster reassurance. Even if it were alopecia, a small, self-resolving instance wouldn't need treatment and the GP might well decide not to make a referral unless it worsened.

The hair regrowth cycle is quite slow so (regardless of whether the cause is glue or alopecia) it might be some months before you see improvement.

(I'm not a medic of any kind - just an alopecia sufferer)

Thanks - at least now I have a photo I can compare it to. If it’s no better / spreading in a month or so I’ll contact the GP.
