Boiling Water Tap - thoughts?

Thinking of getting a boiling water tap in my kitchen. Has anyone got one? What do you think, are they any good / worthwhile? Where's best to buy?

had Zipps at work and they seemed to have issues (few years ago). they also use a tank to store the hot water. So it's not just a tap. Did have a button you had to press at the same time as the hot water release.

Love them, we have one at the sink and one on the hob thats moves side to side to fill the saucepans with boiling water, it does have a hose attachment too but we rarely use that.

bellventrico · 15/08/2026 07:31

My mother had the first qwooker I ever heard of installed about 30 yrs ago - its still on the go. I had one put into new kitchen 2 years ago - they are a luxury but great

Casceres · 15/08/2026 07:35

Brass Quooker here, love it.

SemmaLina · 15/08/2026 07:38

We have a Quooker tap , just the basic boiling version
Best thing ever !

DH was against it as he thought it was an expensive addition or an already expensive new kitchen , but he agrees with me now
If we ever have a new kitchen again ,I’d have another one

Quooker here too and we absolutely love it. Ours is also the boiling/chilled/sparkling one and if we moved house to one that didn't have it, I'd buy it as a priority.

Or just take yours with you! I kept my old tap, and just took the quooker to my new house. Was really easy, and cheaper.

There was a very good sliced bread episode on radio 4 about them. I believe the tea not being as good is because tea should be made with fresh water and everytime its boiled it loses oxygen. Because the hot water taps store water in a tank and keep it hot so that it can immediately boil the water gets deoxygenated.
Cost wise they are not goid unless you are in an office where a huge amount of tea is made.

Definitely get one and get the quooker not the Franke. You need to be aware that they only do so much at one point so you might need to boil a large amount of water for example for pasta on the stove, but if your stove is like ours it will have a power boost

I was going to say the same! We have Franke and it is good and I wouldn’t be without it. But Quooker is another level.

Can’t stand them.
So dangerous.

Can you explain why you think that they are dangerous?
easier to spill a boiling kettle than to accidentally burn yourself with a boil tap.

ExtremeDecluttering · 15/08/2026 07:45

We have a Quooker and love it, the tank doesn't take up a huge amount of space under the sink and it is nice not having a kettle on the counter. The water is properly hot, the control does mean you can't turn it on by mistake. The main reason we got ours though is that our kitchen is a long way from the hot water tank and it also provides our normal tap hot water, no more waiting for two minutes for some warm water to wash your hands or to wash something quickly under the tap. Costwise kettles are cheaper though so it's a luxury.

ProfessorGarlick · 15/08/2026 07:46

We have a Quooker which is 5 years old now, absolutely brilliant and like almost everyone else, it'd be the first thing we replaced if we moved to a house without one. They are no more dangerous than a kettle is - they all have a specific way you need to activate the boiling water, it's not like just turning on a tap. Plus the quooker (don't know about other brands) tap itself is insulated from the water so the metal of the tap doesn't ever get hot when you are dispensing boiling water.
You do need to make sure you get one that dispenses properly boiling water if you want tea.

Or just take yours with you! I kept my old tap, and just took the quooker to my new house. Was really easy, and cheaper.

Thats what we did when we moved, taps are easy too so I fitted normal taps myself rather than getting a plumber in to do it.

Well I never even thought of that - brilliant idea!

NattyKnitter116 · 15/08/2026 07:49

My only experience is with one in a place I regularly stay at. It’s a quooker. Prefer a kettle as the tap is spotty and I’ve been scalded twice with it, so we just take our kettle with us.

I examined the tap and I suspect the spittyness is to do with limescale build up, so they may be a better option if you don’t live in a hard water area. Although I’d have thought the tap would have a filter in it somewhere, so maybe it just hasn’t been serviced. Anyway, looking at the costs involved it does seem a bit gadgetty for the sake of it. It’s no trouble to boil a kettle, or to only boil what you need.

mind you, definitely going for a high end induction hob on next kitchen. Always been a gas fan due to responsiveness but good induction is so much more efficient.

MelonSorbet · 15/08/2026 07:50

My parents have one, it's really awkward and fiddly. A complete PITA to use. I've basically refused to visit them again until they get a kettle!

Beautyfox · 15/08/2026 07:57

We’ve just had one installed because it was ‘free’ with new kitchen. I must admit there was no way I would have planned to have one as I thought they were a waste of money and a gimmick but I stand corrected. We love ours! It’s brilliant! We have one that does cold filtered, boiling and sparkling water. I think you need to decide what you want to use your tap for. If it’s just boiling water then there are some great cheaper ones but if you buy bottled water then cold filtered water may be worth it. Mine love the sparkling water too. So it’s saved a lot of plastic waste for us which I’m really pleased about.
just an fYI, the tanks take up a lot of room under the sink (or in the cupboard next to the sink) so you will almost loose that space and we needed a double plug socket to power ours. Just something to think about if your kitchen is already in situ.

PatioDwellers · 15/08/2026 08:04

We’ve got a qooker, I’m a tea snob and drink a lot and it makes good tea. The one at work that pretends to be a qooker doesn’t.

Its safe, but it’s taken my in laws 2 weeks of living with us to master it.

wish we’d shelled out for one that did chilled too.

Wonderknicks · 15/08/2026 08:15

I have a 10 year old Quooker & would replace it if it broke, I love it & I'm a big tea drinker. It doesn't have chilled water or fizzy, and I'm not sure I'd bother with that.

YouSawBrigadoon · 15/08/2026 08:18

We’ve had one for years. Love it. Boiling a kettle seems like such a faff, and I don’t like the look of them on worktops.

principalskinna · 15/08/2026 08:20

Our builder recommended franke. He was wrong. The filter clogged before should have and customer services were shit

twirlypoo · 15/08/2026 08:28

We have the boiling / cold water one and love it. I don’t know how it could be unsafe as to get the boiling aspect you have to hold it in place and it’s not as fast a steam of water as when you put the tap on. We love the cold water tap as well and have saved loads of money not buying bottled water.

OrangeFlower14 · 14/08/2026 22:49

Wouldn’t want too easy for accident especially if kids around and also in a recent power cut my neighbours got stuck on - running a lot because she was asleep and the sink got a bit warped from the heat

Just..how? Ours doesn’t operate unless you are physically holding it and I imagine all of them have a safety feature like that. It’s not something a young child could easily operate. It also has 5l tank that would run out if running continuously.

We didn’t install ours but we love having it. Only issue is that we no longer make each other cups of tea.

Wish44 · 15/08/2026 08:41

As Pp have said depends if you are in hard or soft water area.

I had one and really loved it but if in hard water area you need to change the filter a lot and it was £40 a time plus the cleaner.

I have moved house ( still hard water) and had new kitchen and opted not to have one.

I like challenging myself to emptying the dishwasher before the kettle has boiled! But I really miss the hot water tap. I live on a right budget and couldn’t justify the expense.

TheBitterBoy · 15/08/2026 08:49

I have an Insinkerator tap. DH was against the idea, but this was half the price of the Quooker. I love it, the nearly boiling water comes out in a stream. My ILs have a Quooker and while it is a tiny bit hotter it's very splattery and I find it a bit scary. My tap still makes great tea, and DH now loves the convenience when cooking pasta etc. it's also really good for a quick blast of hot water when cleaning the airfryer drawer or a greasy pan.
