He didn’t shut up

Oh my I am actually worn out, got chatting to someone online, we swapped numbers, he’s called me twice today and he doesn’t come up for air! Could this just be nerves? But the one time he asked me a question, I answered him and he immediately started talking over me about his own experience, we are supposed to be meeting next week, but I don’t think I’m going to bother, he just constantly spoke about himself really, should I give him a chance or is it not worth it?

He’s a train driver and there’s a problem on his line apparently, the whole 40 minute conversation was just about that really, I did think about hanging up but I’m not like that 😀

Don’t bother. Red flags ++++

Lottapianos · 13/08/2026 20:08

I don't think I would bother taking this any further. Maybe it was nerves, but either way it sounds terribly dull and frustrating. I have no patience these days with people who monologue about themselves like it's the most fascinating thing in the world

Gosh I’d cancel. If at this point he can’t have a two way conversation it’ll be all about him very quickly

Unpaidworkmakestheeconomytick · 13/08/2026 20:10

Nope. I can remember being in despair at a boyfriend who wouldn’t stop talking when I was desperate to go to sleep. I even offered him £5 (way back in the last century) to stop talking for five minutes so I could drift off. He lasted less than ten seconds before starting again. I had to leave the room and find another bed. People who monologue are very draining.

pinenuts75 · 13/08/2026 20:10

at one point I put my phone down and left it on loud speaker 😂 he was going on and on, but why ask me a question and don’t let me finish answering? 🤷‍♀️ it was annoying

Ahhh no I’d be cancelling this one. He sounds really dull.

DonewhatIcando · 13/08/2026 20:12

@pinenuts75
If I didn't have a dp I'd say send him my way.
I work in the rail industry and I find railway talk really interesting 🤭
However, the fact he talked over you isn't great, could be nerves or a red flag.
Whats your gut telling you, another chance or can't be bothered, follow your instincts

pinenuts75 · 13/08/2026 20:13

I feel really bad blocking him though, I have no idea why, I will have to otherwise he will keep messaging and calling.

Block him! A man who can't take no for an answer is very bad news indeed. Be glad that you're not wasting any more time on this guy

No the conversation was left as he said he would message later and he said he looks forward to meeting next week, I didn’t have the guts to tell him on the phone it’s a no.

Lottapianos · 13/08/2026 20:30

So maybe message him to say that you don't think it's going to work for you, or whatever. Hopefully he accepts that. If he keeps hassling you, then block him without hesitation

Sidebeforeself · 13/08/2026 20:34

Don’t just block. Message him and say it’s just not working for you , you wish him all the best etc. See how he responds then block.

TheFlyingPenguin · 13/08/2026 20:37

Men often just think women are there to provide an ear hole service to their endless drivel. It won’t get any better, it just shows they think a lot of themselves and we are there to admire their ‘achievements’ and be entertained by their witty repertoire.

Jump ship immediately. Massive red flag for NPD.

pinenuts75 · 13/08/2026 20:38

I’ve messaged him he just replied thanks you too.

Depends what vibe you get. If it’s nerves go for a quick drink. If you really think he is self absorbed then don’t answer

or you could just be honest and say you are not sure if it’s nerves or he can’t hold a conversation

my DP talked the whole on the 3rd date when he drove us on a day out. I heard lots of things his car could do. I didn’t speak for the whole hour car drive. I thought I can’t spend a day out with him. But he said afterwards he was nervous in a closed space and was not great with getting to know you conversation. think he could tell k was bored. We know have lots of 2 way conversation.

on reflection first few dates were restaurants so had that to chat about and I steered the conversation. Looking at him with interaction with new people he talks about what he knows until he is comfortable

Specialneedsnightmare · 13/08/2026 21:06

The worst date I ever went on involved a guy who spent 3 hours talking non stop about himself. I was so bored and drained. He texted afterwards to apologise and said it was nerves but I was really put off and didn't see him again. I certainly wouldn't entertain meeting someone who showed signs of that.

Gonnagetgoingreturnsagain · 13/08/2026 21:31

If you like him I’d give him a chance. My boyfriend talks a lot and probably did when we first met but it evens out now.
